Description
The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing, leading, and developing the mechanical engineering team at ATC Automation Simi Valley.
The Mechanical Engineering Manager will work with other members of the leadership team, project management, and their team to deliver integrated and functional solutions to our customers.
Responsibilities:
Manage a team of mechanical design engineers to design custom automated equipment
Build and develop the skillset of the engineering team through training, mentorship, etc.
Oversee and manage engineering budgets and schedules
Develop, implement, and refine processes, procedures, and best practices for the engineering department
Manage and plan resources, manage contractors, oversee hiring and onboarding of new engineers
Coordinate with other management and leadership regarding schedules, budgets, resources constraints, and various project roadblocks
Work with and managing external suppliers
Work with customers to refine requirements and align on project requirements. Visit customer facilities when appropriate. Occasional travel is expected (approximately 5%)
Investigate, evaluate, and implement new technology, principles and processes when appropriate
Minimum Required Experience:
3+ years in an engineering management or engineering lead role
5+ years in a mechanical design role, in an industrial automation and/or machine building environment
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams.
Demonstrated experience with performance management
Demonstrated talent and track record in automation and/or machine design
Ability to size and specify actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals
Broad knowledge of materials and fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.) and experience designing for manufacturability
Familiarity with controls and software concepts (ex. PLC, VB, HMIs), including ability to read and proofread electrical and pneumatic schematics.
Experience with change management, revision control, non-conformances, etc.
Experience in tooling design
Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in using computers, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, online research
Preferred Experience:
8+ years in a mechanical design role, in an industrial automation and/or machine building environment
5+ years leading projects or managing engineering teams
Experience implementing or working within ISO 9001
Experience using SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD software
Understanding of GD&T, Y14.5M-2009
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
