    Job Description

    American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring IL RN licensure, Level 1 trauma experience, and prior neuro travel nursing.

    Responsibilities
    Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting
    Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience cases with occasional medical overflow
    Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
    Shift is 12 hours, with every other weekend and holiday coverage required
    Floating occurs in rotation with unit staff, taking a full team when floated to general med-surg units
    Epic is used for EMR charting; Epic experience is required
    House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips
    Charge nurse and house supervisor onsite 24/7; charge nurse does not take a patient assignment unless ratios are exceeded
    Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator and preceptor
    Responsibilities include titrating heparin drips and providing comprehensive care to neurological patients
    Support staff includes nurse aides and patient care techs on all shifts
    No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted on duty
    No call or standby requirements for this assignment
    Local candidates are accepted with local pay rates applied within a 50-mile permanent address
    COVID-19 vaccination is not required
    Holiday assignments occur every other holiday
    Floating outside of the general unit will be supported by a nurse from the receiving unit

    Requirements
    Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration
    Minimum of 1 year of recent neuro nursing experience in a dedicated neuro unit
    Previous travel nursing experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered
    Level 1 trauma experience required
    Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
    Experience with heparin titration based on PTT is necessary
    Epic EMR experience required
