    Camp Dates: 2024 Season: June 27-August 23 Monday to Friday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Including late nights, trips, and other evening events deemed required) Available for all pre-season staff training (selected days in Spring 2024) Must be able to attend every day of camp Must be able to attend all training dates: May 19th, June 2nd, June 9th, and June 23rd
    The Communications Manager is responsible for managing Island Quests communications. The Communications Manager will strive to keep the Island Quest community aware of events (or change in events) and details that need to be known for them to be successful. The Communications Manager will ensure our population is engaged in our mission, vision, and programs. The Communications Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the organization's visibility and engagement to drive awareness of all that Island Quest offers. This person develops and implements strategic communications plans for our families and staff. This role ensures that the story of Island Quest is being disseminated creatively, meaningfully, and on-brand. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced, values-driven environment.
    RESPONSIBILITIES:The following is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned.Offseason (Pre and Post Camp):
    • Create a toolkit for the communication team to understand clear expectations for consistent, on-brand communications. Train and empower your communication team on best practices to ensure there is a photo taken every day of every single camper.
    • Create and maintain a communications calendar for pre-summer and during summer that will be approved by your Camp Director.
    Event Coordination:
    • Assist in at least 4 Pre Camp events. Like a Fall Festival or recruitment event. Ex: Running an arts and crafts booth, selling camp to prospective families, and taking photos of the event to post on social media.
    • Assist in the advertisement of community events. Ex: Making flyers for the event posting on social media and sending out emails and reminder emails with information about the event.
    • Execute thank you notes and acknowledgment letters when needed. Ex: Generic thank you email to vendors that participate in our Fall Festival.
    Communications:
    • Create the annual alumni/community news publication.
    • Create the quarterly electronic newsletter. These will highlight recent camp activities and events, upcoming events, survey results, exciting changes for next summer, new things to expect for camp, etc.
      • 1st one due by November- "Fall into Camp".
      • 2nd one due by January - Meet the staff, and what is new for the upcoming summer.
      • 3rd one due by March- Key summer events, Save the dates, Meet some staff.
      • 4th one due by May -Get Ready For Camp Newsletter.
    • Create the Holiday Card and have final approval of it by November(send ahead of time to allow for potential corrections), and ensure it gets mailed out.
    • Creating Celebration Templates for holidays, camp t-shirt day, etc.
    • Welcome to summer promotion.
    • Hire 2-3 SYEP-eligible photographers/videographers.
    • Oversee and implement the communication calendar including key social media posts and reels. Keep the Associate Camp Director apprised of all communication and its approval before anything goes out.
    • Videotape and help produce 2-3 videos/reels to be used for training or parent orientation.
    During Camp:
    • Coordinate and create a group Picture Day by week 2 and communicate it to the families.
    • Produce an opening day video, a 4-week recap video, and an end-of-summer recap video.
    • Oversee a communication team of 2-3 individuals who will help take photos and videos of all campers and events and will help collect quality photos and videos from other counselors and staff.
    • Manage the "Memory Book", which will be a compilation of photos taken from the whole summer and put together as a keepsake at the end of the summer. Acknowledge traditions, special events and moments, Jewish culture, and campers making significant milestones in camp (Like graduating from LIT). The Memory Book should be complete by the end of August.
    • Supervise the communication team and coordinate schedules to capture each camper and camp program every day through posed and candid shots, including but not limited to Quests, the pool, trips, late nights, overnights, transitions, and impromptu moments.
    • Actively participate and encourage others in camp activities.
    • Oversight and operationalizing of facial recognition to ensure campers are regularly seen in our daily photo posts.
    Communications:
    • Send emails to parents making them aware of what to expect on trips, overnights, late nights, theme days, events, changes in schedules, daily camp reminders, etc.
    • Create the weekly Summer newsletter and help the Assistant Directors of Divisions get out their weekly Division newsletters no later than every Friday evening.
    Other Duties:
    • Provide other duties as requested by the Camp Director. Which can include subbing in for Assistant Directors of Divisions or going as a Leader on a trip.
    Both During Camp and for the Offseason:
    • Develop and implement communications plans with content tailored to key audiences. ○ Research other camps' communication plans for inspiration.
    • Lead the collection and creation of donor and program content that informs, inspires, and connects people to what we do, including but not limited to content for social media, website, newsletters, donor appeals, and others.
    • Communicate with awareness for diverse audiences and our commitment to inclusion at every level of the organization.
    • Manage the email marketing strategy to engage and drive fundraising. For example: If we have a Swim-a-Thon, you would be responsible for creative advertising for it.
    • Consult with the Camp Director and Associate Camp Director about audience-specific communications strategies, tactics, and content.
    • Identify new outreach opportunities to share resources and organizational knowledge to support greater public awareness of Island Quest Day Camp.
    • Produce appropriate content to be used for year-round communications, including holiday messages and tours of grounds.
    • Oversee the editing and upload process of Campsite photos.
    • Schedule appropriate and engaging social media content for Facebook and Instagram posts.
    • Support the creation of a new promotional video to be produced by 3rd party vendor.
    • Ensure all content is organized for easy access and use.
    • Make sure to tell the story of our Jewish mission and moments. Ex: Get photos/videos of Oneg, Israel Day, Israel Culture Quests, etc and post them on social media as well as put them in Newsletters and the Memory Book.
    Communications:
    • Manage the organization's social media accounts, i.e. Facebook and Instagram.
    • Create or assist in electronic communication to the community such as reminders or event advertisements.
    • Provides material for updates on our website.
    • Support in the creation of fundraising materials.
    • Create other marketing and donor solicitation material as needed.
    • Manage photo documentation and storage.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; good interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Proven experience designing and implementing successful strategic communications plans; developing content for various audiences, and knowledge of digital engagement best practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines.
    • An exceptional storyteller.
    • Graphic design experience is a plus.

    EXPECTATIONS AND COMPENSATION:
    • This is a part-time, year-round position, with deadlines and goals for pre-camp and 40 hours per week during camp season.
    • Annual base salary of $7,500.
    • Reports to the Associate Camp Director.
