    Job Summary

    We are searching for a Milk Bank Technician- someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you will provide support and instruction to mother/infant dyads with breastfeeding needs/lactation problems in a manner developmentally appropriate for adolescents and adults as necessary.

    Responsibilities

    • Obtains and documents information related to lactation support and breastfeeding issues of mothers of hospitalized infants and notifies the RN-lactation consultant (LC) of abnormal findings as evidenced by supervisory observation

    • Provides input to the RN-LC for the development and ongoing modification of the plan of care, as evidenced by supervisory

    • Assists in identifying patient response to care provided and reports patient condition to the RN-LC to assure achievement

    • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with multiple health care providers in a professional manner to prioritize workload

    • Provides basic hygienic care as evidenced by supervisory observation, verbal/written feedback.

    • Provides general comfort measures and performs other miscellaneous activities related to milk expression and breastfeeding as assigned and as evidenced by supervisory observation, verbal/written feedback.

    • Ensures effective time/resource management by performing delegated tasks in a timely manner and appropriate utilization

    Qualifications

    Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption

    Required addition to the high school diploma or GED
    • Six months healthcare-related work experience (A Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Healthcare or related field can substitute for six (6) months of experience)
    • Ability to pass a basic math test
    • Knowledge of milk preparation, measurement, and sanitary techniques
    • Ability to maintain sanitation levels and operate computers on a basic level
    • Ability to operate electronic scales, analyzer, and centrifuge with a high degree of accuracy
