    ACCOUNTANT

    CITY HALL - BOE (12 MONTH)

    SALARY: $85,000 - $97,000

    Assist in the fiscal management of the General Fund Budget for the District, under the supervision of the Manager, Budget & Financial Reporting.

    Responsibilities

    • Participates in the development of accounting policy and administers approved accounting procedures.
    • Process various types of fiscal transactions in MUNIS (e.g., journal entries, indirect costs for federal grants, budget allocation, budget transfer requests) for the purpose of updating information and/or authorizing final action in compliance with accounting requirements.
    • Prepares departmental divisional and consolidated financial statements.
    • Conduct special accounting studies, monthly variance analysis and cost analysis; Monitor the budget in comparison to actual expenditures.
    • Perform quarterly updates of quarterly forecasts.
    • Assist in the preparation of grant applications.
    • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
    • Complete account reconciliations.
    • Assist in the Year-End accounting close and preparation of the Education Financial System report required by the state education department.
    • Cooperate with independent external auditors for execution of the annual audit.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • Five years (5) of professional accounting experience, preferably in a school district or City administration.
    • Thorough knowledge of and skill in applying general accounting theory and budget practices and their application in governmental accounting practice.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel Skills.
    • Familiarity with and skill in utilizing electronic accounting systems, including applications software; knowledge of and experience working with MUNIS highly preferred.
    • Experience in preparing timely reports and meeting tight deadlines.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel in BOE/City departments, with peers and subordinates.
    • Ability to manage and complete multiple priority tasks in accordance with established timelines.
    • Ability to work within tight time constraints and under stressful conditions.
