    Position Information

    Position Title Director of Field Education Overview
    • Primary responsibility for the educational and administrative oversight and leadership of the Field Education curriculum component of the social work program, and primary teaching responsibilities in the practicum sequence (two courses per semester).
    Essential Duties:
    • Formulate and implement field education policies (Field Instruction Manual and Student Handbook); recruit new field settings and instructors; and meet with field instructors and supervisors regularly to design/modify the field practicums. Provide ongoing assessment of every aspect of the field curriculum; communicate to and collaborate with departmental faculty on student progress and practicum placement; and monitor student progress and learning objectives in field settings and generate innovations. Serve as the expert on practice and practice issues and as the primary resource for maintaining the coherence/consistency of the field education component. Generate reports for programs to use in on-going program assessment and improvement efforts. Serve as the resident expert on practice process, fields of practice, and program assessment.
    • Consult with agency administrators and social workers, field instructors/supervisors, students, faculty, and other relevant persons to develop the field education component of the social work program. Provide vision for the professional development of the social work students, plan and lead student workshops (resume building, employment, graduate school planning, licensure, and credentialing), and field supervisor training and on-going support. Write and maintain the Social Work Department Student Handbook and Field Instruction Manual and accompanying forms. Maintain the coherence/consistency of the field education component through the data collection and interpretation of all program summative evaluation measures used for the Annual Program Assessment. Responsible for recruiting members for the Community Advisory Board ( CAB ) who advise on points of field curriculum and field education and serve as department coordinator for CAB .
    • Create and prepare all practicum seminar syllabi, course calendars, and other course related materials for students and course instructors teaching additional sections of the field seminar course. Develop student/field settings assignments for each semester; and provide year-round support to students entering the field and those already in field settings. Provide orientation and training to field instructors as well as year-round support to field instructors. Evaluate students' practice competencies and complete recommendations to graduate schools specifically addressing the Field Education Practice Competencies. Advise students and recommend placement sites; recommend and develop placement sites; and work with faculty, staff, and administration on on-going site assessment and improvement.
    • Coordinate and guide other faculty teaching additional practice seminars. Secure, administer, interpret, and disseminate the results of the annual SWEAP surveys. Compile all field-based component data for the Annual Program Assessment; plan and collect all program data relevant for the Annual Program Assessment; and interpret and present the findings to program faculty and administration. Supervise field instructors; initiate and maintain contact with the social work professional community; and attend and participate in relevant professional conferences.
    • Shape Field Education policy as the signature pedagogy. Mediate disputes between students and placement agencies. Design and deliver workshops for students; including Employment Workshop (seniors), Graduate School Application Workshop (seniors), and a series of Practicum Planning Workshops (juniors); and design and deliver workshop for field instructors. Design and coordinate annual 3 credit CEU workshop for field instructors, faculty, and junior/senior majors, including selection of topic, speakers, applying for CEU's, and evaluation.
    Marginal Duties:
    • Perform all other duties as may be required.
    Education and Experience Required
    • MSW from a CSWE accredited program and appropriate licensure ( LCSW , LICSW ).
    • Minimum of 4 years post- MSW practice experience at either the micro or macro level, or both or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
    • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness, preferably at the baccalaureate level, with experience in Field Education teaching preferred.
    • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Ability to anticipate problems and proactively seek collaborative solutions.
    • Some evening and weekend work required.

    Employee Status Full Time Salary Grade 21 (Min. $73,292/Mid. $95,279/Max. $117,266) Salary Information
