    Basic Qualifications:

    Position Description:

    1. Athlete Team Management

    • Assists the Head Coach in organizing practices and competitions to enhance student-athlete skills and optimize team performance.
    • Contributes to developing and executing practice plans in line with the Head Coach's strategic vision.
    • Analyzes video footage to strategize against opponents and enhance team performance.
    • Implements a student-athlete recruitment and retention strategy aligned with core values of excellence and inclusivity.
    • Effectively motivates and communicates with students to foster team spirit through credible coaching.
    • Supports the educational aspect of athletics and facilitates academic integration within the team.

    2. Operational Complexity

    • Assists in formulating and executing team strategy, logistics, and operational directives.
    • Operates within allocated budgets.
    • Ensures compliance with University, Ivy League, NCAA, and other regulatory standards.
    • Collaborates with less-experienced coaches to achieve set objectives.
    • Engages in professional development initiatives, stays abreast of trends, and seizes innovative opportunities.
    • Supports the Head Coach in addressing challenges and conflicts.
    • Requires effective communication with the Head Coach and athletics administrators.

    3. Communication & Influence

    • Assists the Head Coach in building and expanding viewership, as well as generating positive media interest relevant to the sport.
    • Supports the Head Coach in promoting public interest where applicable.

    Essential Functions:

    Under the guidance of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach contributes to the Men's Ice Hockey program at Harvard. This role involves instructing and developing student athletes, participating in strategic decisions during competitions, overseeing athlete conditioning, aiding in recruitment strategies, and managing administrative tasks related to program operations. The position also involves donor relations, fundraising efforts, and organizing special events.

    Job Summary:

    Working under the Head Coach's guidance, this position utilizes athletics as a tool for educating college students. By leveraging inter-collegiate competition and related activities, this role serves as a mentor, imparting valuable life lessons and preparing students for a successful and fulfilling life. The Assistant Coach plays a vital role in shaping student-athletes' personal development over their four-year journey at Harvard.

    The Assistant Coach assists in directing the men's inter-collegiate ice hockey program, engaging with all student-athletes in the program. They may oversee other coaching staff and play a significant leadership role in the Men's Ice Hockey program, including acting as an interim Head Coach when necessary. Previous coaching experience at the collegiate or equivalent level is required, which may involve coaching or teaching professionally. Comparable experience in globally recognized sports may include playing professionally or representing a national or Olympic team.

    This is a one-year term position, subject to renewal at the discretion of the Head Coach and Athletics Director.

    Work Format Details:
