    Description
    Coho Technology Solutions is seeking a High Voltage Electrician to install, maintain, repair, test and load electrical equipment and appliances such as cathode protection, electrical power generators (gas and diesel), medium voltage electrical distribution systems which includes underground cable, transformers, oil and SF6 switches, air switches, ground grid systems, fuses, and cable Medium voltage is defined as voltages between 1kV through 35kV. The Navy also has some 69kV equipment at some installations that may require maintenance and operation as well.

    Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
    • The Contractor may be responsible to perform medium voltage operation (and 69kV if available at the installation) of circuit breakers, switches, etc.
    • Use troubleshooting equipment such as fault finders, cable locators, nondestructive testing equipment such as multi-meters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmmeters, and ammeters, high potential test equipment to troubleshoot, repair and inspect for defective systems and facilities for faulty wiring for "shorts", "opens", "leaks", "imbalance" "phase rotation" or "crosses"
    • Use of equipment shall be in accordance with equipment manufactures guidelines
    • Observe all established safely practices and procedures including electrical safe and lock-out / tag- out procedures and don proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when working near live electrical circuits, 50 volts and above. No "hot" work is permitted without prior approval by FEC Washington Commander.
    • Ensure electrical systems are maintained in optimum operational
    • Respond to trouble calls involving electrical system repairs
    • Maintain and make repairs to airfield lighting and runway threshold lighting, landing aids, such as runway threshold lighting, run/taxiway lighting, beacon lights, optical landing systems, current regulators, transformers, switchgear, emergency generators, and controls for airfield lighting
    • Read and interpret building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine the necessary and proper repairs and/or
    • Use all types of hand and/or power tools required to accomplish assigned duties as a High Voltage Electrician
    • Tools include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.
    • Strings wire and hoist conductors up to cross Pulls wires to proper tension or sag, based on space length, material and size of conductors, prevailing temperature, and loading
    • Installs and pulls cable underground from source of feed through ducts
    • Splices wires by twisting together and soldering, or connecting conductors with mechanical connectors, splicing clamps systems, terminating kits, cold shrink kits and Forms and seals various types of cable joints such as straight, bridge, cap sleeve vertical, disc or knuckle joints
    • Floats solder seams in split lead or sheath using acetylene torch or electrode soldering outfit. Bends and grounds underground cable to minimize electrolytic damage.
    • Determines the diameter and depth of pole holes based on size of pole to be set and holding power of the Directs the erection and raising of poles and installation and replacement of cross arms utilizing power auger truck. Locates and marks electrical and telephone underground utilities prior to excavation
    • Checks condition of transformers, switches, and Collects insulating oil from transformers and oil switches for analysis
    • Checks transformer operating temperatures; maintains records of analysis and condition of transformers. Checks secondary terminals and makes repairs to defective, connections
    • Maintains street lighting systems and traffic signals and
    • On electrical distribution repairs, operates Navy owned vehicles exceeding 26,000 lb. to transport material and equipment to job A Commercial License Class B is required
    • Operates insulated bucket truck and pole auger truck access to transformers or other high equipment. Electrician may perform a variety of tasks such as checking cable temperature in manholes, visually check for cracks or breaks in walls of manhole of vault; pump water from manholes, remove debris and repair ground bonds, checks ground wire connections and cable for cracks, breaks, arid punctures
    • Demonstrates knowledge of electric power generating Knowledge of electrical theory in order to calculate circuit values, determine when operating limitations of equipment are exceeded, or recognize excessive current flow or other signs of improper operation
    • Skilled in the use of hot-line tools and protective equipment such as wire longs, wire long supports, insulated tension links tie sticks, insulated hoods/covers and tools, and rubber gloves, sleeves and insulating Visually cross checks the work of contractors or other co-workers for compliance with contract specifications on new construction, NEC code and OSHA regulations
    Requirements:

    Contractor employees performing services must meet the following requirements and have the licenses and/or certifications for each respective position:
    • Must have union journeyman's license as a high voltage
    • Thorough technical and practical knowledge and experience with high/medium voltage utility systems and auxiliary equipment.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of repair, installation, assembly and troubleshooting of industrial electrical
    • Demonstrated ability to use various electrical and auxiliary equipment measuring
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and guidelines used in industrial equipment operations.
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise dexterity and safety in industrial equipment
    • Demonstrated ability to do the work of the position without more than normal
    • Demonstrated ability to perform preventive
    • Demonstrated ability to operate safely using high/medium voltage
    • Demonstrated ability to work in confined areas in and around industrial equipment and support equipment, i.e., compressors, pumps, etc.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform work that includes moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching.
    • Demonstrated ability to carry parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling
    • Demonstrated ability to work in areas that is subjected to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes.
    • At a minimum, a record of completion for the OSHA 10-hour Construction Training Course is required. A record of completion for the OSHA 10-hour Construction Training Course is required within 45 days of performance Failure to provide record of completion the OSHA 10-hour Construction Training Course will be cause for dismissal.
