    Description

    The Technician in Residence - Costume Assistant will provide crucial support to costume designers and technicians in the creation, alteration, fitting, and maintenance of costumes for various Interlochen productions.

    The successful candidate will assist with costume fittings, organize costume inventory, and ensure the seamless execution of performances.

    This position also supports Interlochen Presents with load-ins, strikes, and other production-related work, assisting in the setup and teardown of equipment, props, and costumes to ensure smooth and efficient execution of performances and events.

    This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and creative environment alongside talented artists and performers. This is a two-semester, contract position.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    Collaborate with the Shop Supervisor to construct and alter costumes for all Interlochen Center for the Arts (ICA) productions, ensuring that costumes meet the artistic vision and technical requirements of each performance
    Maintain cleanliness and organization of the costume shop and storage areas to ensure a safe and efficient working environment, including regular cleaning, inventory management, and proper storage of costumes, fabrics, and materials
    Assist with wardrobe and laundry duties during production runs as needed, including laundering costumes, and ensuring that costumes are properly maintained and ready for each performance
    Assist as needed with designers and costume staff during fittings including taking accurate measurements, and noting any necessary alterations or adjustments to ensure costumes fit properly and align with the artistic vision of the production
    Assist with load-ins, strikes, and other production-related work, collaborating with the production team to set up and dismantle sets, props, and equipment for performances and events
    Seeks the best use of materials and equipment to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in costume construction and alteration, ensuring that resources are utilized judiciously to create high-quality costumes while adhering to budgetary constraints and sustainability principles
    Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community by fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that values and celebrates individual differences
    Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.
    Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth, strategically allocating time and resources to tasks that align with Interlochen Center for the Arts' mission and vision
    May be assigned a costume design project.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
