    Job DescriptionBuilding Systems Principal Designer


    Position Overview:
    We are seeking a seasoned Building Systems Principal Designer to enhance our technical team. This pivotal role involves leading the design process for complex HVAC and plumbing systems and supervising a skilled group of designers. You will be instrumental in shaping project outcomes and ensuring design excellence.


    Responsibilities:
    • Act as the Area Lead Designer, reporting directly to the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor, while overseeing and mentoring a team of designers.
    • Utilize advanced 3D modeling and 2D CAD tools to design and verify intricate systems, ensuring technical accuracy and integration.
    • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with project stakeholders including management teams, other engineering disciplines, vendors, and clients to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
    • Comply meticulously with the Project Quality Plan and align work with project specifications, budget constraints, and timeline objectives.
    • Perform detailed material analyses and compile comprehensive reports to support procurement and construction phases.
    • Engage in the construction administration process, offering crucial technical support and addressing field inquiries and modifications as needed.
    • Execute additional duties as necessitated by project demands and management directives.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Must hold U.S. Citizenship.
    • A minimum of 15 years' experience in designing HVAC or plumbing systems is required.
    • In-depth knowledge of applicable national and local codes, including DOE regulations.
    • Proficient in communicating complex technical details to diverse audiences.
    • Profound understanding of discipline-specific standards and compliance requirements.
    • Demonstrated capability to prioritize details and manage tasks efficiently under tight deadlines.
    • Good computer literacy, specifically in Microsoft Office applications.

    Specific Skill Requirements:
    • Advanced proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D CAD, applied specifically to HVAC or plumbing system designs.
    • Capable of constructing detailed 3D models for HVAC components and systems.
    • Skilled in translating 3D models into comprehensive 2D implementation plans and specifications.

    Preferred Experience:
    • An Associate degree in a related technical discipline.
    • Design experience in regulated environments, particularly under ASME NQA-1 standards for nuclear facilities.
    • Understanding of material cost considerations and market availability.
    • Practical on-site or field experience in related projects.
    • Previous engagement in EPC projects within industries regulated by U.S. Federal agencies, including energy, pharmaceutical, or biotech sectors.
    • At least three years of experience using Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) software.
