    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES


    Inspects all types and stages of electrical installations and plans for compliance to the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code as adopted by Marion County; performs other related duties as required.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED


    Works under the general supervision of the County Building Official who outlines assignments and reviews work through meetings and reports.


    SUPERVISION EXERCISED


    Supervision is not a regular responsibility of positions in this class, but an incumbent will be expected to take leadership in assisting less experienced inspectors on training assignments or inspections of a difficult or unusual nature.


    • Visually examines construction components on numerous different sites, under varying lighting and weather conditions for compliance with approved construction plans, specifications, and State of Oregon Specialty Codes.
    • Reads Building Code publications and plans and interprets for the public both orally and in writing, their content and impacts upon specific construction projects.
    • Operates a motor vehicle approximately miles per day.
    • Reviews commercial electrical plans for code compliance as required.
    • Prepares written reports; issues notices to correct violations; issues "stop work" notices.
    • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
    • May participate in basic incident command training and drills to maintain proficiency in supporting ECC activities, including carrying out field work in connection with ECC operations. May be assigned clerical/support, incident liaison, or other duties at any location within or near the county. Emergency Management duties may require working long hours outside of normal business hours, weekend/holiday work, and may occur with little or no advance notice.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

    • Ten years' experience in the electrical trade.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record.
    • Possession of Oregon State Electrical Inspector certification.
    • Possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, an Oregon Inspector certification (OIC).
    • This position is represented by a union.
    • This is a relief, on-call temporary position, which is eligible for overtime.
    • Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, with flexibility depending upon department and program needs.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


    Ability to detect electrical, fire/life safety and other violations; read and interpret plans and specifications and to compare them with construction in progress; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; establish and maintain cooperative relations with contractors, co-workers, and the general public; effectively operate computer equipment and software programs utilized by the county.


    PHYISICAL REQUIREMENTS


    Operates a motor vehicle; sits; stands; moves about the work area; bends forward; stoops; climbs 1 flight of stairs; crawls on hands and knees; reaches overhead; lift, pulls.

    pushes, and moves carts weighing up to 40 lbs.; carries items weighing up to 10 lbs.; operates a keyboard; speaks in a clear and audible speaking voice; reads at 12-point font; distinguish colors and shades; hears at a normal speech level; may be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, dust, smoke, vibration, uneven areas, noise, wet areas, chemicals, radiation; climbs ladders and scaffolding.
