    I.


    INTRODUCTION
    A. This position is located within Raleigh Radiology facilities and free-standing outpatient imaging center located in

    Orange County, N.C.

    B. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

    C. The primary function of a Patient Coordinator is to act as a professional liaison between patients and families.

    Provide exceptional patient care and help ensure all areas of registration have been completed prior to a patient having their exam.

    D. The Patient Coordinator is well-versed in the requirements for registering all modalities.

    E. This position reports to the Registration Supervisor.

    Requirements

    I.


    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    A.

    General Duties

    80%


    • Maintains standards of professional care and maintains patient confidentiality.
    • Implements policies and procedures of Raleigh Radiology.
    • Establish and maintain open communication.
    • Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained supplied environment for patients and staff.
    • On a regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both inside and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness, and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, empathetic, respectful and kind with dealing with team members, visitors, public and all employees.
    • Greet and check in patients.
    • Works closely with patients, families, visitors, and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, or provide other information.
    • Communicates with patients and clinical personnel to accurately schedule patients for appointments.
    • Collect and enter all necessary demographic, clinical, billing, and insurance information from patients or responsible parties.
    • Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.
    • Explain processes and forms to patients prior to securing signatures and ensure that all documents are properly signed and witnessed as required.
    • Ensure each account is registered accurately and completed prior to final billing.
    • Answering and triaging incoming phone calls to get the most appropriate personnel or department.
    • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities, as assigned, including but not limited to scheduling and order entry.

    Safety/Infection Control

    • Adheres to safety/infection control policies and procedures.
    • Reports unsafe work areas and assures follow-up.
    • Assesses patients and plans appropriately for safety/infection control.
    • Assures that all equipment necessary for the provision of care is readily available and in working order.
    • Reports incidents and unusual occurrences according to department policies.
    • Wear protective aprons, eyewear, masks, gloves, and radiation monitoring devices, as required for each procedure.
    C.

    Other Duties

    • Maintains the strictest confidentiality of all facility and facility-related employee/patient information.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

    A.


    Education:
    High School graduate with 1-year experience in a healthcare environment, associate degree a plus.

    B.

    Experience:

    6+ months of Medical Insurance experience-coverage, payments. 6 months of healthcare industry experience-Hospital, doctor's office, insurance provider.

    Certification:
    None

    D.


    Licensure:
    None

    II.


    DESIRED SKILLS
    Ability to type 45 words per minute. Able to learn other all applicable software programs as needed. Able to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and ability to follow directions. Being bilingual is a plus. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


    Must be able to read without strain printed material the size of typewriter characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily; may be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.

    Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, or transfers patients. Lifting supply boxes. Subject to rotating holidays or shifts.

    Instruction / Assistance / Review of Work:

    The Patient Coordinator functions with oversight by the Registration Supervisor, although considerable independent work is required. Review of work is generally limited to assurance that work performed is in accordance with policies and procedures. The employee is expected to inform management when unforeseen events/circumstances require significant changes.
