    This position provides supervision of Visiting Application Unit (VAU) staff.

    The position works independently assigning and controlling workflow and establishing procedures for processing of visiting applications for all agency correctional facilities.

    Responsibilities include supervision and training of VAU staff regarding the visiting application process including BCA background checks, ensuring data practices are followed with regard to confidential data, ensuring applications are processed in an accurate and timely manner and ensure professional communications occur when staff are dealing with the public, incarcerated populations, agency employees and criminal justice involved professionals.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • A minimum of one (1) of supervisory or lead work experience, which includes planning, coordinating, assigning and reviewing the work of other staff OR a minimum of two (2) years of advanced-level clerical/office administrative support experience (i.e., Office and Administrative Specialist Senior/Customer Service Specialist Senior or higher).
    • Experience in office organization, procedures, and workflow sufficient to develop, modify, and implement procedures, establish objectives, and assess results.
    • Customer service experience that demonstrates the ability to solve complex problems and respond to internal and external customer needs.
    Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be further assessed on the following:


    • Ability to provide supervision sufficient to train, assign, control, and evaluate work and hire, discipline, and reward employees.
    • Communication skills sufficient to provide exemplary customer service to internal and external stakeholders and staff at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to investigate situations to develop, analyze, and select courses of action and negotiate solutions to make decisions and follow through on matters.
    • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet critical schedules.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Current MN BCA Certification
    • Experience working in a secured/correctional setting
    • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and agencies serving incarcerated individuals.
    • Experience working in a call center or comparable environment focused on providing customer service to individuals via phone calls.
