    Position Overview:

    This job involves performing both engineer and deckhand tasks primarily in harbors. The main duty is to ensure the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and repair of all vessel machinery, equipment, and systems. As an important member of the Vessel Management Team, the Engineer is responsible for following all Company operational guidelines and planned maintenance programs.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Maintain a safe work environment on the vessel by implementing Company policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
    • Prepare, check, maintain, and repair harbor vessel engine and machinery ensuring proper operation and safety.
    • Start up and shut down vessel engine and report any abnormalities to the Captain and Port Engineer.
    • Perform deckhand duties including handling mooring lines, setting blocks, and other tasks.
    • Conduct general maintenance, cleaning, and sanitary work on harbor vessels and surrounding areas.
    • Keep an engineer log and prepare monthly fuel and lube reports.
    • Carry out minor engine room maintenance and repairs.
    • Handle fuel oil, lube oil, fresh water, and waste water operations.
    • Identify and report major equipment deficiencies for correction.
    • Participate as an Engineer on Inter Island voyages.
    Skills and Qualifications:
    • Proficient use of hand and power tools for engineering and deckhand tasks.
    • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and handle hazardous materials.
    • Compliance with work schedules and U.S.C.G. regulations.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines and machinery.
    • Capability to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, and blueprints.
    • Skills in troubleshooting and repairing marine hydraulic, electric, and mechanical equipment.
    Minimum Requirements:
    • Valid drivers' license.
    • Merchant Mariner's Document (z-card) with specified endorsements.
    • Preferred STCW 95 certification.
    • Completion of company's Personnel Qualification Standard for Engineer within 90 days.
    • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Minimum of one year marine diesel engine experience.
