- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of productivity and adherence to quality standards. Remain agile in approaches to succeed in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Planning: Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to schedule and prioritize work orders, ensuring timely completion of projects while optimizing machine utilization.
- Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control processes to guarantee the precision and accuracy of machined parts. Conduct regular inspections and address any deviations from quality standards.
- Workflow Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow optimization. Streamline production processes to enhance efficiency and reduce lead times. Maintain a set of KPI's across the aspects of the machine shop and use as feedback to drive improvement.
- Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure that machines are properly maintained and serviced. Address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all team members adhere to safety regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to create a secure working environment.
- Training and Development: Facilitate training programs for machinists to enhance their skills and keep them updated on industry best practices. Foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.
- Communication: Maintain open communication channels with other departments, such as engineering and procurement, to facilitate collaboration and resolve any cross-functional issues.
- Documentation: Keep accurate records of production activities, machine maintenance, and quality control measures. Generate reports as needed to track key performance indicators.
- Budget Management: Assist in budgeting and cost control measures for the machine shop. Monitor expenses related to materials, equipment, and personnel.
- High School Diploma with training in machining practices preferred.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, and related technologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control standards.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
