    Non-MRP Hospitalist (CH-23-GNCH-SUR-NMRP-ARP-04


    Covenant Health is currently recruiting a fully licensed physician to manage the medical/surgical care needs of designated patients admitted to the GNH General Surgery Service, at the request of the designated attending General Surgeon will respond to related consults within the emergency department and provide afterhours (nights and weekend) surgical assist services across surgical programs at the GNH.

    This role is part of a co-managed care model having the Non-MRP physician working under the guidance of an attending Surgeon while also working independently managing inpatient medical/surgical issues, Emergency consults and OR/Surgical Assist services.


    This role is divided into two shift options:
    Ward (Inpatient) /Consults (ED) and OR/Surgical assist, both of which are available to the provider.

    Ward / Consult

    • Specific duties include, but are not limited to:o
    The assessment and management of General Surgery inpatients
    o

    The assessment and management of General Surgery consults within the Emergency Department and larger GNH site.
    §

    Assessment of the physical and psychological health status of patients by means of interview, history and physical examination. Other times as dictated by the clinical situation of the patients
    §

    Identify the patient's health care problems and develop a plan of care and problem list
    §

    Document the assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation of patient care daily in a progress note
    §

    Review and discharge patients as soon as medically appropriate
    .
    OR/Surgical Assist
    ·

    provide surgical assist services in the operating room;
    ·

    assist with the preoperative set-up by reviewing and displaying x-rays, reviewing equipment needs and room set-up and help with surgical preparation;
    ·

    apply dressing and post operative splints/casts as indicated and help support patients in the recovery room;
    ·

    Evenings and weekends provide surgical assist services to all surgical programs across the GNH site.

    Physicians must be eligible for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage, and ACLS certification.

    Applicants must have current experience in the clinical management of acute care inpatients, and/or experience in emergency room services.
    Eligibility for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta is essential.
    This position will not support a practice readiness assessment.

    Compensation:

    The Co-Managed care model provides an alternative to the fee-for-service (FFS) payment method through a Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP) that compensates physicians for providing a set of clinical services at defined facilities to a target patient population better suited to them and their patients.

    Successful candidates will be contracted annually and remuneration can be primarily through the Non-MRP Clinical ARP.Interested applicants should forward their curriculum vitae with three references, current CPSA permit and a letter of application via the Dr.
