- Assess student health complaints and administer prescription and non-prescription medications to students per doctor's instructions and in accordance with the school's procedures for medication administration.
- Provide direct care to students for injuries and acute illness and long-term management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, etc.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians and students' healthcare providers to ensure emergency healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions are in place and communicated to the appropriate individuals such as the student's teachers, coaches, trip leaders, etc.
- Maintain and ensure confidential communication and documentation of student health information and clinical records using the school's healthcare management platform (Magnus Health).
- Provide screenings and referrals for health conditions as needed.
- Manage the administering of hair drug tests for students in Grades 7-12 in accordance with the school's drug testing policy.
- Promote a healthy school environment by monitoring immunizations, ensuring appropriate isolation for students' with infectious illnesses, and reporting communicable diseases as required by law.
- Serve as a resource to students, faculty and administrators as needed on health education topics such as nutrition, exercise, tobacco prevention and cessation, oral health, infectious diseases, substance use and abuse, and immunizations.
- Screen for head lice, to include distributing information to parents regarding treatment of affected students.
- Conduct periodic workshops and in-services to instruct school personnel in proper first aid, CPR, and related health procedures; develop and organize new health services and injury prevention programs for students, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and Division Directors in the development and evaluation of school health policies.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers to address student health care needs.
- Stay current on trends and best practices in student health and nursing.
- Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences. Qualifications & Skills
- Registered nurse (RN) certification required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- CPR/AED certification required.
- At least three years of nursing with school nursing experience preferred.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to carry out duties and responsibilities confidentially and in an accurate and timely manner with a high degree of autonomy, personal initiative and ownership, and minimal direction.
- Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
- Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents/guardians, alumni, and guests.
- Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace preferred.

Summary of the Position:
The School Nurse supports student success at The Montgomery Academy by providing healthcare through assessment, support and intervention for students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade. With offices on both campuses of the school, the nurse serves as a primary member of the student support team in the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. The School Nurse reports to the school's CFO, but also works closely with the Division Directors and Head of School.
This is a full-time, ten month position. Regular hours are not required in the summer, but there could be sporadic summer duties related to developing medical plans, supply ordering, database updates, or a consultation on a summer medical issue.
