    Job Summary
    The Occupational Therapist has responsibility to evaluate, treat, establish a plan of care, and assess need for Occupational Therapy services

    Job Specific Responsibilities
    Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:


    • Demonstrates activities including scheduling patients for evaluation and treatment. Proficiency with this skill is validated through the productivity data.
    • Participation in clinical education by functioning as a Clinical Instructor to OT/OTA students after one year experience at UMC.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in documentation necessary for Occupational Therapy

    This includes:

    oCompleting proper documentation such as evaluation, weekly progress notes, precautions, contraindications, and placing an individualized plan of care with functional goals in the patients' medical record within 24 hours of initial contact.

    oCompleting daily documentation and re-assessments within 24 hours and discharge summaries within 48 hours per PM&R policy and procedure.

    oSubmission of daily charges.


    • Demonstrate proficiency in evaluation techniques/skills and therapy procedures appropriate to the age of the patient and within medical limits of the patient while taking into consideration any special precautions/contraindications the patient may have.
    Performs and demonstrates procedures while using proper body mechanics and safety precautions for the techniques/procedures including but not limited to the following:

    Manual Muscle Testing
    Goniometry
    Sensory Testing
    Neuromuscular/Reflex Testing
    Positioning
    Splinting – Static vs. Dynamic
    Therapeutic Exercise Techniques
    Activities of Daily Living
    Cognitive and Visual Perceptual Training
    Adaptive Equipment
    Coordination/Dexterity Activities
    Modalities


    Demonstrate the ability to:

    oAssess the needs of the patient by assessing and documenting the learning needs of the patient/caregiver and supply the appropriate instructions to the appropriate learner.

    Education and Experience


    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
    • + 3 years of clinical experience
    Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations


    • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Occupational Therapy
    Skills and Abilities


    • Must adhere to the bylaws established by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
    • Ability to perform technical procedures
    • Ability to instill confidence in patients, with physicians, and in other staff members
    Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    This position will have close interactions with physicians, nurses, patients, and professional staff and support personnel

    Physical Capabilities
    Position requires walking and standing most of the shift. Hearing and visual activity and clear speech patterns are necessary. Indoor work equipment including but not limited to treadmills, cycles, strength training circuit, and audiovisual equipment

    Environmental/Working Conditions
    This position is mostly subject to inside conditions which includes varying indoor temperatures.
