- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair motor vehicles and equipment for use by Department of State Police Personnel.
- Troubleshoot and road test State Police vehicles and equipment to determine the repair work to be performed.
- Ability to repair minor dents and damage, windshield, and glass replacement, buffing out scratches, and refurbishing
- Replace damaged body parts, including bumpers fenders, hoods, trim, etc.
- Ability to realign car frames and repair structural damage.
- Ability to prep and paint vehicles and equipment.
- Prepare damage reports for the Fleet Administrator, Fleet Crash Coordinator, and / or Chief Public Safety Vehicle
- Ability to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety precautions.
- Ability to follow established procedures, practices, read and comprehend instructions.
- Provide accurate estimates of a repair or maintenance job.
- Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical systems and components to diagnose issues accurately to repair,
- Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and replace as needed.
- Inspect vehicle braking system and components to diagnose issues accurately to repair, maintain, replace as needed.
- Inspect steering system components to diagnose issues accurately to repair, maintain, replace as needed, including fourwheel alignments.
- Inspect tires, repair, and replace, includes mounting and balancing.
- Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) targeting vehicle safety and functionality.
- Repair or replace broken or defective parts and fix issues.
- Inspect Department equipment to diagnose issues accurately to repair, maintain and replace as needed, but not limited to
- Ability to operate snow removal and sanding vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to operate tow vehicles (ramp trucks).
- Keep logs on work.
- Maintain equipment and tools in good condition

- Undertake duties and roles as assigned by the Fleet Administrator and / or Chief Public Safety Vehicles Mechanic.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive equipment such as automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc.
of which (B) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:

A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at the high school level or above, with a major in automotive shop practice may be substitution for one year of the required (A) experience.
