    Bonneville County is now accepting applications for the following position:

    Position: Judicial Clerk I

    Starting Salary: Pay Grade 10 - starting salary $ DOE, per hour

    Work Hours: 40 hours a week

    Closing Date: Posting will close June 16, 2024 or when filled, whichever comes first.


    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Perform a variety of entry level magistrate clerical and secretarial duties as required to expedite and maintain proper processes, procedures and protocol related to various civil, juvenile, felony or misdemeanor cases brought before the magistrate court. Exercise primary responsibility for coordination and maintenance of a magistrate judge's court calendar.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    Work under the general supervision of the Court Operations Manager. Receive functional supervision from the Magistrate Judge(s) to which they are assigned.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Receive, review and evaluate filing documents and determine proper action and disposition; process all papers from various divisions of the court; monitor disposition of court cases to assure timely prosecution; schedule, type, and coordinate weekly court calendar, including preliminary hearings, pre‐trial meetings, arraignments, sentencing, trials, motion day, etc.; compile data for trial setting calendars and send related notices; prepare notices of trials and hearing; may type jury instructions and submit same to magistrate judge.

    Prepare for civil and criminal hearings; assure proper notification of concerned parties and legal staff; prepare lists of assigned dates for hearings; make determinations for hearing locations, times and hearings judges; assure proper ordering of various cases according to court calendar.

    Attend magistrate or district hearings and proceedings; operate and monitor recording equipment; disposition hearings in court system; maintain accurate notes; swear in witnesses, prepare documents, receive and marks exhibits; enters case disposition and hearing results; schedule future hearings and closes cases; prepare and issue warrants, rescind orders, etc.; monitor legislative changes of various laws and re‐codes the same.

    Perform confidential judicial secretarial duties such as typing memorandums, decisions, legal correspondence, orders of the court, etc.; monitor administrative activities of the office to assure timely preparation for hearings.

    Prepare case documentation for felony case Supreme Court appeals; assure pertinent case materials are pulled from case files; make appropriate copies, create folders for distribution to appropriate parties.

    Assist with the maintenance of treatment court programs; assist with staffing, documentation management and preparation; monitor participant status; coordinate with case workers as needed.

    Perform as receptionist to the judicial staff; receive and greet the public, manage scheduled and unscheduled appointments; coordinate information and calendaring with various county and court personnel, attorneys, judges, and the public.

    Prepare payroll and travel vouchers for judges; assure proper record keeping and submission schedules are adhered to.

    Maintain inventory of office supplies and materials; follow established procedures for purchasing replacement items.

    Bonneville County has an expectation that employees maintain regular, reliable patterns in their work product and attendance.

    Perform related duties as assigned.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Educations and Experience:

    A. Graduation from a senior high school;

    AND

    B. Two (2) years of experience performing above or similar duties;

    OR

    C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

    2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Working knowledge of the function of Clerk of the Courts; legal terminology associated with a variety of court processes and documents; court room procedures and protocol; modern office maintenance related to recording and filing important documents; general office management; the operation of county court document processes and computer system. Working knowledge of interpersonal communication skills.

    Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with elected officials, professionals, the public, and fellow employees; operate a variety of types of standard office equipment; work quickly and accurately; maintain acceptable levels of efficiency while working with time pressures and deadlines; maintain confidentiality on sensitive issues.


    3. Special Qualifications

    Must meet all security requirements for access to NCIC reports including background check and fingerprinting.

    Preference in hiring shall be given to applicants with legal clerical or secretarial experience.

    Highly proficient keyboard and 10-Key skills.


    4. Work Environment:

    Tasks require variety of physical activities, occasionally involving muscular exertion, such as walking, standing, turning, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, critical thinking and guided problem solving.
