    Job Description

    A General Foreman plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of skilled journey-level workers across several Substation Construction & Maintenance sites.

    Typical Duties:

    • Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of journey-level workers of various building trades involving Substation Construction
    • Reviews staff's in-progress work for adherence to job specifications, safety policies, and project timelines
    • Estimates costs, manpower need, and time necessary for completion of various projects
    • Coordinates the work of assigned staff with other General Foreman
    • Prepares job specifications, sketches, and progress reports on current construction projects
    • Interprets and explains specifications, blue prints, and work projects with assigned staff
    • Ensures that staff is supplied with tools, materials, and equipment for completion of assigned projects
    • Instructs and advises staff on changes in policies, procedures, and work standards
    • Directs and/or provides training to trade staff
    Qualifications

    Knowledge Of:
    • Construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of Substation sites
    • Current practices, materials, hand and power tools, and equipment used in Substation Construction
    • Methods and procedures used in planning and scheduling of Substation Construction activities
    • Safety regulations and practices pertinent to the construction industry
    • Principles of supervision and training
    • Recordkeeping procedures
    • Methods and procedures used in planning construction projects
    • Various computer application capabilities
    Ability To:
    • Plan and schedule projects for the construction, installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of Substation sites
    • Supervise the work of assigned journey-level workers across multiple states
    • Read, interpret, and work from sketches, drawings, plans, and blueprints
    • Perform skilled journey-level work
    • Plan ahead and meet schedules
    • Effective utilize computer system and software
    • Make accurate cost estimates for material and labor
    • Work effectively and cooperatively with customers, outside contractors, and vendors
    • Write clear and concise instructions and reports
    • Maintain accurate records
