    Description
    Location: On-Site at McDonald Army Health Center - Fort Eustis, VAShift: M-F, 8 hour shift between 6:30AM and 6:30PM
    Qualifications:
    • Certificate/Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy services training program of the United States Military
    • Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
    • Experience: One year of experience as a pharmacy technician after graduation
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen

    Duties: The duties include but are not limited to the following:
    • Performs inpatient pharmacy services and the preparation of the limited range of sterile products and intravenous admixtures for the medical facility
    • Reviews physician sterile product order, patient medication profiles and records to prevent or counteract adverse drug reactions or interactions and determines effectiveness of the drug regime
    • Verifies that the prescribed medication is within safe dosage range, that components and additives needed are correctly identified, that quantities are accurately computed and measured and that the compounding is performed as specified
    • Ensures correct labeling, handling and storage of all pharmaceutical products
    • Assist with preparation and issuance of unit-dose trays and carts. Review physician unit dose orders, patient medication profiles and records to ensure appropriateness and safety of medication order. Verifies correctness of medication, quantity, etc., and that instructions for storage and administration are understood and complied with
    • Ensures that the equipment is properly setup and operated
    • Advises physician of findings and recommendations and provides technical supervision to other professional and nonprofessional staff assigned to this function
    • Reviews the prescription, patient medication profile and patient record to determine appropriateness, safety and completeness of medication, authenticity of prescriber, possible drug interactions, history or likelihood of adverse reaction
    • Compounds or oversees the compounding of drugs as prescribed, either individually or in bulk. Determines formulation to be used, dosage forms, quantities concentrations, number of doses, etc.
    • Ensures correct labeling, handling storage and dispensing. Reviews prescriptions set up by pharmacy technicians from volume or prepackaged stores. Ensure proper item, quantity and labeling before authorizing release
    • Properly affix the patient's identification data on all appropriate forms IA W hospital SOPs
    • Maintain professional competency involving clinical skills and knowledge
    • Assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested
