Job Description

Engages in research with indigenous communities in ethnoecology - fauna flora and environmental care.
Advises on strategies to promote the stewardship of indigenous knowledge accessed through the world's languages
Promotes knowledge of ethnoecology throughout SIL and its partners.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in ethnoecological research with indigenous communities.

  • Advise on strategies to implement SIL's commitment to promote the stewardship of the world's languages and the bodies of indigenous knowledge accessed through them

  • Meet regularly with Environment and Creation Care Services Team (ECCS), interacting with other ECCS subteams whose remit overlaps with Ethnoecology - in particular Indigenous Knowledge and Faith & Farming

  • Promote knowledge in this field throughout the organization and its partners.

  • Prepare funding proposals and work with partners to achieve sustainable projects

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A dedicated Christian with a strong passion for environmental stewardship and sustainability

  • Strong knowledge of environmental & creation care principles

  • Strategic planning and project management skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in cross cultural context

  • Ability to effectively network and advocate within both Christian and secular forums

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in advising and consulting in linguistics, literacy, Scripture Engagement or related fields

  • Experience in networking and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders.

Training and Orientation:

Orientation and mentoring will be given to faciltate good integration into the team and professional development.
