- Assist physicians and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs, and update medical history as needed.
- Assist with procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and sigmoidoscopies, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, including blood draws, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed by physicians, adhering to medication administration protocols.
- Provide patient education on gastrointestinal conditions, treatment plans, and preventive measures.
- Document patient information, medical histories, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Assist with scheduling patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits as needed.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements in all clinical activities.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to facilitate efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assisting program or relevant certification preferred.
- Proven experience working as a medical assistant in a clinical setting, preferably in gastroenterology or internal medicine.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, clinical procedures, and documentation practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills and experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire; additional certifications such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required at 1 year from date of hire.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, OSHA guidelines, and patient safety standards.
