    Unit Overview

    The Progressive Critical Care Unit cares for

    high-acuity medical and surgical patients

    with complex needs. This unit manages some of the most medically fragile and surgically challenging cases in the region.

    Common Patient Populations & Diagnoses

    Respiratory failure

    Sepsis

    Closed head injuries

    Endocrine disorders

    Multi-system organ dysfunction

    Complex traumas

    Surgical complications

    High-acuity medical/surgical DRGs

    Skills & Clinical Requirements


    RN must be competent in:
    Medical & surgical progressive care nursing


    ACLS
    Advanced hemodynamics , including pressor usage per titration protocols

    Antihypertensive drips

    Sedation and

    Narcan

    drips

    Thrombo-embolytics

    A-line & CVP management

    EVD management

    Ortho traction

    Infection-prevention protocols

    HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, Oxypendent

    oxygenation modalities


    Average Patient Load:
    3 high-acuity patients

    Nurses with

    large-scale adult PCU

    or

    community hospital ICU

    experience perform well on this unit.

    Requirements

    Active RN license


    ACLS – Required

    Minimum 2 years PCU/Stepdown or ICU experience

    EPIC experience – Required

    Strong competency in advanced hemodynamic and high-acuity care
