    Job Overview

    Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a transformational, innovative, and operationally savvy Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Executive (SVP/CNE) responsible for strategically organizing, planning, directing and evaluating all nursing functions and other patient care areas (e.g., social services, emergency medicine, pharmacy, rehabilitation and respiratory care services) throughout CHCO. This position recommends and implements policies and procedures to improve efficiency and delivery of quality patient care.

    The Chief Nursing Executive encourages innovative and transformational leadership at the department level empowering nurses' decision-making control over nurse practice and establishes interdisciplinary teams throughout the organization, supporting nursing care and patient care services. The CNE will be responsible for advancing all nursing functions, including developing a collaborative team that possesses balanced capabilities; holding the team members accountable, both individually and as a group; and creating a motivating team environment. This executive will collaborate with other members of the executive leadership team to build programs and initiatives to help advance the success of CHCO and will have a close working relationship with the president and chief executive officer (CEO), Jena Hausmann.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Master's Degree in public health, hospital or business administration, or related field
    • Equivalency: Bachelor's degree plus two years of leadership experience in lieu of Master's degree.
    • Minimum of 10 years of nursing leadership experience
    • Preferred: 5 years of experience in executive leadership
    • Preferred: Extensive senior management experience in large, complex hospital systems, academic medicine, university and patient-centric environments
    • Registered Nurse and an ANCC recognized certification. Nurse Executive or Nurse Executive Advanced required within 12 months of hire. Active member in a nursing or professional healthcare organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Develops mission, vision and strategy for the organization. Reviews and approves strategic plans, annual goals, and performance metrics for operations, ensuring conformity to the organization's vision.
    • Functions as a member of executive leadership, providing guidance and direction to leaders and team members in the achievement of organizational goals and objectives; evaluates organizational performance. Creates organizational design for entire organization based on vision; serves as a champion of organizational culture, influencing culture change to support strategic objectives. . Develops, implements, and maintains business segments and service lines to meet organizational needs. Handles operational and customer service escalations.
    • Manages communications to the organization on mission, vision, strategic objectives; supports communications on major projects and initiatives that are generated from supported operations. Maintains effective working relationships with executives across the organization and the board of directors to drive performance towards the organization's strategic plan; builds and maintains relationships with external stakeholders and community groups to define and support both operational and organizational strategic initiatives.
    • Assigns and reviews annual goals and strategic goals, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops leaders. Evaluates performance of leaders, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires leaders. Reviews and approved resource plans for operations.
    • Carries overall financial management responsibility for one or more operations or the entire organization, reviewing and approving recommendations made by leaders.
    • Develops and implements broad operational policies; serves as executive sponsor on major projects for functional areas. Provides advice and guidance to board of directors on the operational impact of strategic initiatives.
    • Ensures compliance against federal, state, and local regulations for operations and for the organization.

    Salary Information

    Minimum Salary: $395,520

    The salary for the position varies based on the candidate's qualifications.
