    Head of Index Data Management - Charlotte, United States - CFA Institute

    Description


    The Head of Index Data Operations is a senior leadership position within FTSE Russell responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of Index Data Management within the organisation.

    The role involves leading a large team who between them are responsible for managing, developing and enhancing index data operations to support the organisations indices and benchmarks used in many financial products such as ETFs, mutual funds and other investment vehicles.

    The successful candidate will work closely with technology, index operations, outsourcing and the product teams to ensure that the data meets client demands, complies with the related regulations and also adhere to industry best practices.


    The Head of Index Data Operations will also work closely with the Head of Benchmark & Index Management Strategy, Transformation and Delivery to play a critical role in driving FTSE Russell's index data strategy and ensuring the accuracy, operational robustness, constant improvement and regulatory compliance of the organisations usage of data in Indices and Benchmarks.


    Key Responsibilities:


    Work with the Head of Benchmark & Index Management Strategy, Transformation and Delivery to develop, prioritise and implement strategic plans for the index data operations function, aligning with commercial objectives, index platform objectives, regulatory requirements and client demands.

    Lead and manage the teams responsible for data research, data due diligence, data collection and collation, data transformation, data validation and data provision.

    Work closely with the risk, control and benchmark administration teams to develop and provide best in class data governance.

    Work closely with technology to translate business requirements to technical specifications for data onboarding and management, owning the transformation of the data management function and transition to a more scalable, resilient target state.

    Experience in the SI data space advantageous. Creation of exclusion lists, ESG data handling and the associated regulations for the handling of SI data.
    Drive innovation and automation to improve data quality. Develop KPIs to monitor and drive performance based on business strategic objectives and regulatory compliance.
    Manage and strengthen relationships with index data providers and outsourcing arrangements.
    Liaise with external stakeholders including clients, regulators, index users and industry associations. Represent the organisations data management capabilities.

    Develop a training and mobility plan through the end-to-end lifecycle of Index Data Operations to create subject matter expertise throughout the organisation, aiming to be 'employer of choice' in the index space.

    Drive risk culture through the organisation to further support the enhancement of the risk and control environment.
    Staying up to date with market trends, index methodologies and data management methodologies

    Experience:
    Ideal candidate will have a 15+ years of experience working in Index, or related, organisations.
    Proven experience in data management, financial product development with strong understanding of index methodologies and best practices.

    Significant leadership and managerial experience with the ability to create and lead a high performing team that is globally distributed and resilient.

    Strong stakeholder management skills, with the credibility, expertise and gravitas to influence at the senior management level.
    In depth knowledge of financial markets, investment products and regulatory requirements related to Data Management.

    Proven track record of successful delivery of large programs of work / projects in the Index space involving significant complexity.

    Strong experience in data management best practices, business workflows, tools and automation and their implementation/usage.
    Sound judgement with experience of balancing competing factors to deliver optimal outcomes.
    Strategic thinker with proven ability to execute with quality and efficiency.
    Strong analytical skills and proven record in innovative thinking.
