    Description

    Overview:

    The Indirect Material Buyer is responsible for the purchasing of non-production supplies, equipment and/or services to support the manufacturing organization. This position will actively manage the supplier base of non-inventory suppliers and will lead sourcing activities for onboarding and qualification of new suppliers; will manage purchase order flow from placement thru payment. The Indirect Materials Buyer will act as backup for Inventory Buyers and Planners in the Supply Chain group.

    Responsibilities:
    • Manages non-production suppliers, source indirect materials and services for all the 3 Contec sites in Spartanburg, SC.
    • Offers support to Engineering group and other departments in sourcing and negotiation of capital expenditures and purchase orders fulfillment.
    • Organizes RFQ for optimization of supply base, including definition of requirements, quotes analysis and negotiation, evaluation, and approval of new suppliers.
    • Manages communication between suppliers and requestors; resolves delivery and payment matching issues. Expedites delinquent orders and notifies the appropriate department of any delays.
    • Drives cost reductions for products/services in his/her area of responsibility.
    • Offers support and backup to Inventory buyers and Production planners in the supply chain group, as needed.
    • Enforces Company purchasing policies and procedures and offers support to requesting departments in obtaining necessary documents for compliance.
    • Interfaces with other departments such as Production, Engineering, Facilities, R&D, Warehouse, Marketing, Accounting and Quality as internal customers.
    • Supports the efforts of creating a culture of continuous improvement that facilitates effective problem solving, process and product improvement.
    • Participates and works within ISO 9001 quality standards guidelines in accordance with Contecs quality goals.

    Requirements:

    Bachelors degree (B.A., B.S.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience (i.e., Purchasing/Sourcing/Planning/AP etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Experience working within large-scale ERP/MRP systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
    • 3+ years of experience in a planner/buyer or sourcing role strongly preferred.
    • Experience with materials transactional flow thru production and lean manufacturing is preferred.
