Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles.

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday with day, backshift, nights and weekend shifts

This is a Fixed term post for 12 months

The Beatson Cancer Centre is looking to appointment 6 Clinical Development Fellows. 2 starting from February 2025 for 12 months and 4 from August 2025. The programme provides training in all aspects of Oncology and opportunity for Palliative Medicine and Clinical Haematology placements.

Under the supervision of the Oncology Consultants and Specialty Trainees, the Clinical Development Fellows will be expected to participate in the management of patients with cancer at a ward level.

Opportunities are also available for access to outpatient clinics, radiotherapy, an Acute Oncology Assessment Unit and an Enhanced Care Unit.


The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is organised around 6 wards – B1- B5 and B7 specialising in the non-surgical treatment of all cancer types.

Clinical Development Fellows would be primarily based in wards B1, B2, B4, B5 and B7. One of the key components of the Clinical Development Fellowship is the role for career development. There will be the opportunity for the Clinical Development Fellows to enhance their CV. Examples of this will be specific advice given on interview technique.

Several consultants at the Beatson WoSCC are interviewers in National Recruitment and their advice will be invaluable in helping the Clinical Development Fellows progress through their career.

In addition, the Clinical Development Fellows will meet with their supervisors to discuss their CV. Any gaps in the CV will be addressed and steps put in place to help bridge those gaps.

It would be expected that the Clinical Development Fellow will complete at least one audit project that would be presented at a national or international meeting during the fellowship.

It is desirable that candidates possess MRCP (UK/I) or equivalent by commencement of post. Experience in Oncology, Palliative Medicine or clinical Haematology would also be advantageous. Career prospects are excellent in this expanding specialty.
