    About This Role:



    The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Nurse I, II, or III to join our dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team to help provide exemplary patient care. This position holds many engaging responsibilities including helping to provide vital care for critical patients, operating medical equipment, and performing or assisting in technical procedures. Nurses on this team assist in day-to-day responsibilities like monitoring medical records, organizing technical work, maintaining equipment and supply statuses, as well as coordinating animal treatments. Communication and collaboration skills will be utilized daily.

    What You'll Need to Succeed:



    Minimum Qualifications:

    • For a Veterinary Nurse I:

    Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

    • For a Veterinary Nurse II:

    Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and two years of relevant experience.

    • For a Veterinary Nurse III:

    Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and five years of relevant experience as a veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) after passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
    • Additional advanced knowledge of nursing care and assigned service requirements and policies.
    • Ability to perform general diagnostic procedures and technical tasks associated with emergency medical care.
    • Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.
    • Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
    • Ability to be a self-starter and be proactive in assisting others.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in high intensity environment.
    • Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals.
    • Skilled in time management and prioritizing daily responsibilities.
    • Skilled in interpersonal and written communication.
    • Skilled in basic computer skills.
    • Be willing to master new techniques.

    Other Requirements:

    • Applicants must be registered as a paraprofessional under the authority of Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiner within six months of employment.
    • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
