Your Specific Responsibilities:
Certify participants eligible for WIC: Provides assessment, certification, group education and individual counseling of WIC applicants/participants according to federal, state and local guidelines. Provides high risk assessments and follow-up, per the WIC Program procedure manual. Completes client counseling in approved format.
Collects and records health information and services provided. Obtain heights, weights and hemoglobin measurements, preferred but not required. Completes requires paperwork as designated by the local agency.
Issues EBT card to participants at reloads, certification and recertification of participant according to federal regulations and local policies and procedures. Notifies client of recertification requirement as applicable, completes/verifies VOC/ID card for current certification data & correct return appointment dates, as well as including risk codes for eligibility; instructs new clients regarding EBT card redemption procedures.
Provides nutritional consultations to facilities and provides information to and consults with various members of Health Department staff on nutrition related subjects. Provides training to WIC staff and in-service education to Health Department staff, when needed. Provides nutrition and health education to the community. Provides education and presentations to targeted population groups such as schools, and to organizations and agencies. Other duties assigned.
Follows established rules, regulations and procedures in the following areas: attendance, leave, and travel. Ensures time and Employee Activity Record (EARs) are accurately completed and submitted within the required timeframe.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Utilization of equipment including anthropometric equipment, hematology equipment and computer equipment.
Knowledge of normal nutrition principles and food needs throughout the life cycle. Ability to determine nutritional risk and needs and nutrition education plans for individuals including low risk, high risk.
Ability to provide nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion to others in groups or individual instruction.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to provide client-centered nutrition counseling to WIC clients.
Qualification
Minimum - A registered dietitian as defined by the American Dietetic Association or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or food service management.
Preferred - FL-WiSE experience, Knowledge, and ability to obtain heights, weights and hemoglobin measurements.
At least three years of WIC program experience as a Nutritionist or Nutrition Educator.
