- 1. Welcomes Patients and guides them to their examination or treatment area.
- 2. Records Vital Signs (Tpr, Bp, Hgt/Wgt, Bmi) accurately. Updates medical history and patient medication records.
- 3. Prepares patients, equipment, and rooms for procedures; supports during procedures. Notifies appropriate personnel of any changes in patient condition.
- 4. Collects and labels specimens correctly (blood, urine, wound, etc.). Ensures prompt delivery of specimens to the laboratory. Retrieves chemotherapy drugs from the pharmacy and blood products from the blood bank.
- 5. Maintains detailed records of medical instructions, treatments, prescriptions, phone calls, etc., in the electronic medical record system, including date and signature.
- 6. Acts as a reference for unit staff on protocol requirements and sequencing for lab tests and X-ray procedures. Handles the delivery and return of diagnostic films (X-rays, scans).
- 7. Logs all incoming and outgoing lab work/results, maintains in-house laboratory results, and organizes lab reports in the electronic medical record system.
- 8. Accompanies patients to and from examination/treatment areas and facilities. Provides assistance with urinals, bedpans, or incontinence products. Stays with confused or disoriented patients.
- 9. Manages equipment. Ensures equipment and examination rooms are cleaned and disinfected according to protocols. Reports equipment defects or damage to the engineering department.
- 10. Tracks inventory in examination rooms, laboratory, and clinical areas. Places orders, records charges, and stocks all supplies necessary for the Cancer Center, including office, medical, and radiation oncology supplies.
- 11. Handles patient phone inquiries, offering necessary information and instructions as prescribed. Supports office staff with appointment scheduling, confirmation, and other clerical tasks.
- 12. Adapts to variable staffing needs of the Cancer Center by being flexible in assignments and work schedules when needed.
- 13. Responds to critical situations following nursing standards and clinical policies.
- 14. Meets set expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal/professional development as specified in performance evaluations.
- 15. Executes other tasks as delegated or instructed to ensure the smooth functioning of the department/unit.

EXPERIENCE
1-2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical environment is preferred; Proficiency in Phlebotomy is a plus; Proficient in computer usage.
LICENSURE
Current Medical Assistant Certification (American Association of Medical Assistants or National Healthcareer Association preferred) or completion within 1 year of hire.
