    Job Description Salary:


    A Merchant Underwriter for Splitit plays a crucial role in assessing and managing risks associated with onboarding new merchants and monitoring existing accounts.

    This position requires a blend of curiosity, analytical skills, knowledge of the payments industry, and the ability to make informed decisions quickly.


    Job Summary:
    The Merchant Underwriter is responsible for evaluating new merchant applications to determine the risk of establishing a business relationship. This includes reviewing financial statements, credit reports, business models, and compliance with industry regulations.

    The role also involves monitoring the performance and compliance of existing merchants to mitigate financial losses and ensure adherence to company policies and industry standards.


    Key Responsibilities:

    Risk Assessment:
    Analyze financial data, business models, and transaction patterns to assess the creditworthiness and default risk of potential merchants.

    Documentation Review:


    Examine business licenses, bank statements, tax returns, processing statements and other documents to verify the legitimacy and financial stability of businesses.


    Policy Compliance:
    Ensure all merchant applications comply with internal policies, as well as state, federal, and industry regulations.

    Decision Making:
    Make informed decisions on merchant applications, recommending approval, denial, or conditional terms based on risk analysis.

    Account Monitoring:
    Regularly review existing merchant accounts for signs of financial distress, fraud, or non-compliance with agreement terms.

    Collaboration:
    Work closely with sales, account management, and management to communicate underwriting decisions and risk concerns.

    Reporting:
    Prepare reports on underwriting activities, risk assessments, and merchant account reviews for senior management.

    Continuous Improvement:
    Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and risk management.


    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, technology, data, or a related field.
    Experience in payment card underwriting and/or merchant monitoring.
    Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
    Knowledge of payment processing, merchant services, and industry regulatory standards.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey risk assessments and decisions.
    Proficiency in financial analysis software and risk assessment tools.
