- Assists in cross connection control inspections and related site assessments to ensure that the City's water distribution system is adequately protected from contamination by internal and external sources
- Assists with water, stormwater, and wastewater related compliance inspections on City properties, public roads and rights-of-way, wetlands, commercial, and industrial facilities, and other sites
- Assists in the implementation of environmental education and compliance programs for internal staff training and public events
- Assists with coordinating sampling and analysis, calculations, and records for industrial surcharge billing
- Assists in the development and implementation of a Grease Management Program by inspecting commercial producers of grease to reduce effects on the sanitary sewer collection system and the environment
- Collects surface water, stormwater, and wastewater samples
- Collects surface and groundwater readings at designated sites
- Writes reports to U.S.E.P.A., FDEP, and other agencies, and attends meetings as required
- Effectively utilizes computers and various software packages to access, input, and retrieve information
- Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, and other recordkeeping and reporting necessary for administration of relevant programs
- Responds to environmental incidents to manage proper clean up and disposal. Complete applicable reporting requirements, maintain documentation of incident, and conduct follow up if needed with monitoring and education of responsible parties to prevent reoccurrence of future incidents
- Conducts own research in fields of expertise.
- Reviews and evaluates new and current programs to determine their efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with state, local, and federal regulations, and recommends any necessary modifications.
- Develops constructive relationships with outside and internal regulatory and non-regulatory persons to promote spirit of cooperation for the City of Plant City.
- Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
- Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations

- Knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and back-flow prevention
- Knowledge of safety hazards associated with wastewater collection and treatment and appropriate precautions.
- Ability to research and evaluate data from a variety of sources.
- Ability to prepare and submit accurate and complete reports, and perform required documentation and record keeping tasks
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, public, and business officials.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, make logical conclusions, and initiate appropriate actions
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools to perform mechanical work
- Ability to understand and properly utilize measuring instruments, gauges, and meters
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
- Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
- One year of experience in an established cross connection control program, environmental compliance and/or education program, or related field
- One year of experience in field sampling or laboratory analysis of wastewater/water preferred.
- One year of experience in a regulatory position preferred.
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City's discretion.
- Possess a Level I Fats, Oils, and Grease certificate or obtain within 12 months of employment
- Possess approved Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing and Repair certifications, or obtain within 12 months of employment
- Possess a Level C Industrial Pre-treatment certificate or obtain within 18 months of employment
- Possession a Valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by the City's current insurance provider.

PAY RATE: $24.39/HR
Position Summary:
Provides technical support for all programs within the Environmental Compliance Division. Performs tasks and duties related to maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal water, stormwater, and wastewater permits. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Responsibilities range from testing the City's water distribution system, sampling wastewater, and inspecting wetland systems, to completing reports and filing all related documentation. Problem solving skills, and significant attention to detail are essential. Work is largely independent and requires a high level of self-motivation, critical thinking, planning, and organizational skills.
