    Summary:

The CT Technologist conducts diagnostic and therapeutic CT procedures following established protocols to aid the referring physician in diagnosis and treatment. They execute computed tomography (CT) procedures by selecting appropriate exposure factors, algorithms, and scan fields while considering patient age and diagnosis to generate accurately detailed cross-sectional images for the radiologist's assessment in diagnosis and treatment. They actively engage in complex invasive CT examinations by supporting the Radiologist or Physician's Assistant with proper sterile technique and producing CT images.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform CT procedures according to department protocols by selecting correct exposure factors, algorithms, and scan fields to produce precise cross-sectional images based on patient age and diagnosis.
    • Accurately input data into the RIS to track actual procedures for exam and supply charges, resource allocation, and other relevant information. Transfer correctly annotated images and necessary paperwork into PACS.
    • Gather all pertinent patient information, including current lab values and medication usage, ensuring that the reason for the exam aligns with the exam request, thus conducting the appropriate exam on the correct patient for an accurate diagnosis.
    • Explain procedures to patients, addressing their concerns. Follow ALARA principles and employ proper infection control techniques to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment in adherence to performance standards. Manage area supplies, report equipment malfunctions, conduct and document quality assurance testing on equipment as per established protocols to sustain system performance. Transport patients when needed.
    • Initiate intravenous sites, assess existing sites, and administer intravenous contrast following established protocols. Adhere to proper safety procedures for handling, storage, and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious, radioactive, and toxic substances.
    • Maintain clinical proficiency and annual health stream. Engage in the department's quality, safety, and compliance initiatives.
    • When required, offer clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining a grasp of policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process to evaluate student progress and competence in conducting imaging procedures.
    • Execute any other related duties as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate from an accredited Radiography program.

    Licensure, Certification, Registration:

    • Connecticut state Radiographer license is mandatory.
