Michael Baker's first office in Alaska opened in 1942.
Since then, we have played a key role in some of Alaska's most renowned infrastructure projects, including groundbreaking projects on the North Slope and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.
We continue to focus on cold regions engineering—pipelines, transportation, civil, architecture, hydrology, and geotechnical, and specialty professional services, permitting and regulatory compliance, and GIS and LiDAR mapping.
We have offices in both Anchorage and Fairbanks and constantly network with our lower 48 colleagues providing workshare opportunities across the company and leveraging our extensive skills sets to grow in Alaska.
DESCRIPTION
Your key responsibilities as a Lead Bridge Engineer in our Alaska Transportation Group, will be to grow and lead a small team of professionals in the planning, inspection and design of bridges and other structures in various highway, transit, and rail projects.
These responsibilities may include:
Lead highway and rail bridge teams working on projects for Alaska Department of Transportation, Alaska Railroad Corporation and others.
Lead the bridge and structures tasks on a variety of projects
Be responsible for quality control and quality assurance
Report directly to and work closely with the Anchorage Office Executive and other leaders within the Alaska operation.
Participate in ongoing strategic positioning for new project opportunities.
Manage client relationships and client engagement to best serve the interests of the client and Michael Baker.
Be responsible for successful contracting and project execution.
Manage a staff of 2 to 4 professionals, including training, career development, and performance reviews.
Provide opportunities for mentoring, growth and enhanced capacity within the group across technical and client driven goals
This position will be part of Michael Baker Regional Bridge and Alaska leadership teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar degree with 8-10+ years of bridge related design experience. Master's degree is a plus.
An Alaska P.E. or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
An Alaska S.E. is a plus. Having a PE, SE or NCEES registration in other states is a plus.
Strong all-around theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles
Demonstrate ownership, initiative and attention to detail and accuracy of client deliverables.
Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, AREMA, CAN/CSA S-6, and other North American design codes
Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
Solid background and understanding of Structural engineering software packages like: MDX, Con-Span, RC-Pier, MIDAS, CSI Bridge, BrR, FB Pier
Preferred experience with engineering design software, i.e. programs such as LUSAS, SOFiSTiK, MIDAS, MicroStation, etc.
Experience in NBIS bridge safety inspections and currently qualified as a NHI Certified Bridge Inspector and/or Tunnel Inspector.
Experience in non-routine bridge and retaining wall inspections, emergency response, and developing strategies for urgently deficient structures is desired.
Ability to travel as business requires, up to 25%
Experience with Design-Build delivery is a plus
Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge design specifications
Seismic analysis experience, including response spectrum analysis and non-linear time-history analysis.
A team-oriented attitude is a must.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $120,000-$180,000.
This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
