    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY
    Assume primary health care of specific patients under the direction of the Medical Director. Follow established nursing standards, procedures and practices, and gives specific patient care directions to nursing and other staff.


    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
    Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Master's degree in nursing preferred. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Completed course work to apply for furnishing number.

    Nurse Practitioner experience of at least one year preferred in a family practice setting, but will consider previous nursing experience.

    Experience in nursing management, outpatient preferred. Knowledge of rural clinics, billing and office set-up, experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Position-Specific Standards:

    Clinical Responsibilities:

    • Provide primary clinical care of clients of all ages in accordance with standardized procedures.

    Clinical care includes the following:

    • Obtaining health history
    • Performing physical examination
    • Assessing and managing physical and psychosocial problems.
    • Developing a problem list, a diagnostic, therapeutic and teaching plan, which includes preventive health.
    • Managing emergency cases.
    • Patient education and counseling.
    • Perform gynecologic screening examinations and diagnostic examinations for gynecologic problems. Offers family planning and STD counseling and services. Does not provide prenatal care.
    • Assess and counsel families and individuals with mental health problems.
    • Furnish and adjust medications in the formulary in accordance with the law.
    • Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory and radiologic tests, as needed.
    • Refer patients for specialty evaluation and care as needed.
    • Maintain medical records of care given. Fills out all necessary forms.
    • Review patient's records, including laboratory data, for abnormalities and completeness and is responsible for providing appropriate follow-up.

    • Precept and teach nurse practitioner students and other nursing personnel.
    • Participate in Nurse Practitioner meetings and meetings with the Medical Director.
    • Participates in special projects relevant to individual and community health.
    • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
    • Adhere to grooming policy.
    • Demonstrate safe habits in the workplace with concern for the safety of employees and patients.
    • Demonstrate use of good body mechanics.
    • Wear and/or use appropriate safety equipment.
    • Report unsafe conditions promptly.
    • Cooperate with safety inspection teams, fire drills and disaster drills.
    • Punctual and show a responsible and dependable pattern of attendance.
    • Arrive for work promptly, return promptly from breaks, lunch, etc.
    • Endeavor to remain health and use sick leave appropriately.
    • Employee may transport medication, including expired medications, to and from the hospital pharmacy to the clinics.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.

    Supervisor Responsibilities:

    • Maintain a safe, comfortable therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
    • Maintainestablished departmental policies/procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    • Supervise front and back office staff.

    General Standards:

    • Provides an environment that demonstrates competence, caring, and commitment to external and internal customer satisfaction.
    • Immediately greets/acknowledges guests' presence in a courteous and caring manner.
    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and deal with immediate guest needs first, and paperwork processing second.
    • Demonstrates appropriate customer relations communications skills, actively listening, maintaining eye contact, using guest names, anticipating customer needs, and proactively offering assistance.
    • Demonstrates good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all hospital staff.
    • Answers the telephone professionally, identifying self and department. Handles telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality. Returns telephone voice mail and messages appropriately.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of patient and facility records and information.
    • Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time or personal days off. Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness. Reports to work as scheduled; is consistently ready to work at start of the assigned shift. Reports off duty as scheduled; does not abuse overtime policy.
    • Makes best use of time during assigned shift. Coordinates activities to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Attends to personal affairs on own time to avoid disrupting the work schedule.
    • Performs duties in an independent manner with minimum supervision.
    • Adjusts personal schedule to complete workload when requested.
    • Completes time sheet accurately and on a daily basis.
    • Utilizes company supplies efficiently.
    • Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner at all times.
    • Observes the Hospital/department dress code and wears ID badge.
    • Attends all required education/in-service meetings.
    • Complies with hospital safety and disaster policy and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to hospital and departmental safety regulations, disaster plans, infection control policies, and fire safety regulations, hazardous materials protocol.
    • Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of National Patient Safety goals.
    • Provides safe transportation of patients to and from the patient care units, registration area, and emergency treatment area.
    • Identifies and reports unsafe conditions noted hospital wide that could contribute to potential falls or injuries by staff, patients, or visitors.
    • Responds to and uses disaster codes appropriately.
    • Always utilizes Standard Precautions for infection control.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    Corporate Compliance:

    • Conduct hospital business in an ethical and lawful manner and is willing to report any knowledge of real or potential fraud or abuse according to the CRMC Code of Conduct.
    • Establishes a work environment that is free of harassment and that is sensitive to indications of harassment.
