- Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits, pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals requirements for scheduled outpatient services via telephone and/or insurance websites.
- Obtains patient information to facilitate the verification of the unique patient identifiers for clinical purposes, the billing and collections process, and compliance with state and federal regulator requirements.
- Evaluates eligibility for alternate sources of financing care and refers to appropriate agency where possible.
- Obtains any required pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies, primary care physicians, and families.
- Estimates self-pay portions after benefits have been determined (e.g., deductibles, co-pays, non-covered services, etc.).
- Must have at least 1-2+ years of Eligibility/Auth/Referral/Prior Auth experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of medical billing, insurance and private pay.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding practices
- Strong computer skills, including EMR knowledge and Microsoft Office.
