Position Overview
The Speech Language Pathologist-Assistant (SLP-A) is responsible for the delivery speech/language services to students receiving special education services in school environments and/or people living in community-based residential programs.
The SLP-A must collaborate with a supervising SLP, teachers, parents, caregivers, and other professionals to understand the strengths, interests, and needs of the individual, develop, implement, and monitor relevant treatment plans.
Essential Job Functions
SLP-As will propose relevant IEP, IHP, ISP goals to participants' interdisciplinary teams and work throughout the year to help them achieve their goals.
In addition to collaborating with a supervising SLP, SLP-As will work closely with other professionals such as psychologists, behavior analysts, and mental health therapists.
Experience with the SETT framework is desirable, as SLP-As will often serve as a resource for SETT evaluators.
Experience with or the ability to develop and coordinate therapy schedules to ensure participants receive all services identified in their plans.
Requirements
Current and unrestricted SLP-A license to practice in the state of practice.
Department of Education licensure or certification as required by state.
Experience working with people with special needs such as autism and intellectual disabilities.
Demonstrated proficiency in documentation and compliance with ethical standards.
Additional clearances or certifications as required by state and/or funder (e.g., First Aid/CPR certification, TB test, Mandated Reporter training, Child Abuse Clearances, FBI background checks, state police background checks, etc.
Preferences
Experience writing goals coupled with the ability to collect data that enables teams to determine if/when participants reach their goals.
Ability to adhere to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries at all times

Physical Requirements
Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English
Must be able to travel
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting
Must be able to sit and climb stairs
Must have visual and hearing acuity
Must have strong sense of smell and touch
Must be able to sufficiently reposition patients and move equipment without assistance
Must be able to appropriately respond physically and mentally to emergency situations in the school or home
Environment
Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions
Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases
