Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Dispatcher to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will coordinate the scheduling and routing of freight and transportation assets to ensure timely deliveries and efficient supply chain operations. Your proactive communication skills and technical expertise will help optimize fleet utilization, streamline shipping and receiving processes, and maintain seamless coordination across multiple departments. Responsibilities
- Coordinate dispatching of freight vehicles using transportation management systems (TMS) and GPS technology to optimize routes and delivery schedules.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse staff, carriers, and clients via multi-line phone systems, ensuring clear instructions and updates.
- Monitor real-time vehicle locations through GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and GPS tools to track shipments and respond swiftly to any delays or issues.
- Maintain accurate data entry related to shipments, delivery statuses, and fleet management in systems such as Oracle Transportation Management (OTM), SyteLine, and AS400.
- Manage shipping & receiving schedules, ensuring proper documentation, freight handling, and compliance with safety standards.
- Analyze transportation data to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements within the supply chain and logistics operations.
- Handle emergency situations or disruptions by coordinating alternative routes or schedules while maintaining excellent phone etiquette and communication clarity.
Skills
- Strong understanding of GIS, GPS, transportation management systems (TMS), and logistics software such as Oracle Transportation Management, SyteLine, and AS400.
- Proficiency in transportation planning, fleet management, shipping & receiving procedures, and supply chain processes.
- Excellent analysis skills for evaluating routing options, freight costs, and operational metrics.
- Effective dispatching abilities combined with solid communication skills for liaising with drivers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Data entry expertise with high accuracy in systems like Oracle TMS or AS400; familiarity with shipping documentation is a plus.
- Experience working with 3PL providers (third-party logistics), freight carriers, or in transportation planning roles.
- Ability to operate multi-line phone systems efficiently while maintaining professional phone etiquette.
