    Description
    Database Engineer (Principal )Seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead our database team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in database administration, architecture, and PostgreSQL development. The SME will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of the unit's PostgreSQL databases.


    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Design and implement database architectures that support business requirements and achieve high performance, availability, and security.
    • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases.
    • Conduct performance tuning of database systems, including queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
    • Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and failover procedures.
    • Assist in the design and development of data models and database solutions.
    • Collaborate with development teams to optimize database code in application layers.
    • Provide guidance on database best practices to IT staff and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure database infrastructure is up-to-date with the latest technology trends and security patches.
    • Develop and maintain documentation regarding database configurations, architectures, and procedures.
    • Serve as the point of contact for database-related queries and technical support.

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

    Education:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    Required Experience: 10+ years of related experience

    Required Technical Skills:

    • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, tuning, management, and security.
    • Proficiency in SQL and experience with PL/pgSQL or similar procedural language.
    • Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding.
    • Previous experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
    • Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options for PostgreSQL.
    • Good understanding of hardware performance, memory and I/O.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.

    Security Clearance Level:
