    By joining our Campbell County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you'll have the opportunity to takeadvantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in roadand construction maintenance and operations.

    Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
  • Hauling materials to and from job sites.
  • Operating dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
  • Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
  • Learn and assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects.
  • Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
  • Holders of this job title will obtain:
  • Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
  • Experience working with strict deadlines.
  • Experience completing shift or on-call schedules.
  • Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Employee in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority, within 12 months of employment in this job classification, documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
