    JOB SUMMARY:
    This is a full-time, ten (10) month exempt position


    This position:

    accepts the responsibility of assisting the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Sports Medicine in the leadership, vision and supervision of the athletic training department, provides the direction and overall care for student-athletes participating in varsity intercollegiate programs.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
    A Master's Degree in Athletic Training or closely related field and 1-2 years of athletic training experience, preferably in a college/university setting, preferred, not required

    Additional training in the allied health profession desired

    NATABOC certification and a Massachusetts State License in Athletic Training required

    Additional preferred certifications include CPR/AED and First Aid instructor, and strength and conditioning

    Genuine understanding and commitment of NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics philosophy

    Leadership abilities and proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments in a timely manner

    Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong written communication skills

    Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail

    Computer proficiency

    Valid driver's license


    Duties and Responsibilities:


    Responsibilities include but are not limited to, all aspects of sports medicine, planning, budgeting, directing, supervision and medical coverage of all varsity and club sport programs' practices and games, developing and managing the athletic training room along with therapeutic modalities, acute injury care prevention of, respond to, evaluation of injuries, monitor rehabilitation progress of student-athletes, etc.

    Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and NATABOC standards and guidelines

    Maintain NATABOC certification/ licensure with Massachusetts

    Maintain open communication with college nurse and doctor/ Public Safety/ town medical personnel/ UMass Memorial Medical Group

    Coordinate contest coverage and where necessary

    Coordinate sport physicals/ medical insurance documentation/ roster follow through on student clearance

    Understand and implement the colleges concussion protocol, including communication with Head Athletic Trainer, and college representatives. Understand ImPact guidelines.

    Assist Head Athletic Trainer with practice and game schedules, and appropriate medical coverage.

    Purchase, maintain and inventory medical equipment and supplies, in conjuncture with Head Athletic Trainer.

    Maintain a zero dollar line item budget by year end, in conjuncture with the Head Athletic Trainer

    Provide and coordinate sport specific strength, conditioning and rehabilitation programs to coaches and student-athletes and monitor progression through various stages implementing protocol changes/ work in conjunction with strength & conditioning staff members

    Maintain treatment documentation and records/ coordinate medical insurance claims

    Develop and implement the use of an Athletic Training Staff manual including policies and procedures

    Plan, direct, advise, and evaluate Emergency Action Plans (including lightning, cold and heat policies)

    Meet seasonally with coaches to review all Emergency Action Plans and practice/ contest coverage

    Maintain certification for CPR/ AED and First Aid/ maintain records for and certification of athletic department staff in CPR/ AED and First Aid/ coordinate re-certification of athletics department staff

    Maintain Athletics Department AED equipment

    Track, coordinate usage and maintain golf carts in conjunction with Equipment Manager

    Attend department staff meetings/ institutional functions/ regional and national NATA seminars and conventions

    College Committee or task force involvement/ departmental programming and special events

    Available for emergency response

    Accept all duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the A.D., administrative staff and athletics department

    Report any misconduct occurrences to AD immediately


    Physical Job Components:
    Light to moderate lifting

    Able to communicate orally, in writing and use office and telecommunication equipment

    Ability to work business and extended hours including evenings and weekends

    Valid driver's license

    Traveling is expected
