to join our team of higher education professionals who are committed to student success.
The Director of Custodial & Building Services is responsible for the management and delivery of all building custodial services at all DCCC locations.
This position will oversee all custodial operations designed to maintain college premises in clean and orderly condition to include but not limited to general housekeeping duties, bathroom cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, floor refinishing and carpet cleaning, deep cleaning, plus other duties as assigned.
The Director of Building Services will coordinate all contracted custodial services throughout all DCCC campuses and build and maintain relationships with third-party vendors.
The Director of Building Services directly supervises assigned departmental staff, reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Facilities, and will participate in DCCC Facilities department and college-wide meetings, events, and activities as needed.
Custodial Service OperationsPlan, coordinate, and schedule all daily operations and special projects.
Manage custodial services for all shifts, seven days per week, for all academic/administrative buildings on the main campus and the off-campus sites.
Responsible for capital cleaning equipment selection, maintenance, and training.Order supplies as needed. Maintain inventory of supplies to be certain there is enough in stock.
Develop contingency plans for emergency response.
Establish audit procedures to judge and adjust the systematic and uniform performance of assigned tasks.
Develop and implement working and area schedules for all custodial staff. Review and update schedules when needed.
Work with vendors on obtaining specialized equipment or products if the need is required. Train staff in use of such equipment.
Maintain and review work order system for department.
Oversee office moves and relocations as needed.
Participate in interactive, on-site meetings during normal business hours and on a regular basis, regular on-site Facilities office hours.
Provide direct assistance in all duties as needed.
Training and Safety
Plan and oversee service procedural training for all custodians upon employment and throughout their tenure.
Continually appraise, test, and implement new cleaning technique and staffing methods for efficient operation.
Periodically update training resources, work procedures and department policies.
Contracted services
Oversee contracted custodial services for off campus locations. Work with the AVP Facilities on preparing and executing bid proposals for custodial services for off campus locations.
Review services and make corrections as needed.
Communicate with off campus directors on needs for buildings.
Oversee and manage contracted trash and recycling services. Troubleshoot any issues.
Work with the AVP Facilities on preparing and executing bid proposals for yearly trash services.
Obtain quotes for extermination services for all locations. Oversee extermination contractor and keep logs of needed services.
Work with outside vendors on equipment rentals not available by the college for special events at all locations, obtain cost, set up and oversee event.
Work with the department requesting the event and with the AVP Facilities on staffing needs for such eventsRegulatory
Keep and maintain all regulatory information for department including but not limited to SDS, hazardous waste, local trash and recycling requirements, spill response information.
Provide all local municipalities with required yearly information on trash and recycling totals or other needed information.Maintain all safety and regulatory records for the department.
Meet with AVP of Facilities regularly to review plans and procedures.
Management Functions
Provide management of department and assigned staff through independent judgment and decision-making.
Regularly direct the work of, schedule, and provide staff development opportunities and training to assigned department staff.
In coordination with the AVP, Facilities, perform supervisory functions for assigned staff such as hiring, firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary counseling, salary recommendations, workload distribution, communication, recognition activities, and employee relations.
Participate in the development of a departmental budget as part of the College's budget preparation process and operate within budget limitations.
The successful candidate must be a resourceful leader who is strategic and fosters collaboration.This individual will be able to demonstrate the use of best practice strategies associated with custodial and building services in a higher education setting.
This individual will demonstrate a spirit of an independent problem solver and decision maker with a strong understanding of the College's mission and goals.
In addition, they will also have a demonstrated ability to encourage, model, embrace, and incorporate diverse thought and perspective of all individuals of various backgrounds, ideas, and perspectives to foster an all-inclusive environment and drive results.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three-to-five (3-5) years of prior custodial experience and previous custodial services management or supervisory experience overseeing multi-site locations; experience on a college campus setting is preferred.
High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or related skills enough to perform required tasks, such as assisting with inventory, reading technical instructions (as with safe handling of chemicals) and so forthBackground Clearances:
