    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly detailed on the City of Saratoga Springs application form § Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree or higher and two (2) years of full time paid clerical experience;
    OR § Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered business school and two (2) years of full time paid clerical experience;
    OR § Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of full time paid clerical experience.

    If successful on the examination, you will not be certified for appointment until you have submitted proof of completion of the requirements to the Saratoga Springs Civil Service Office.

    Proof must be submitted within 2 months, following award of degree; failure to do so will result in removal of your name from the established eligible list.

    Clerical experience is defined as performance of routine office tasks, such as keeping of records and accounts, correspondence, recording/entering and retrieving data and/or information, in accordance with prescribed procedures.· Degree must have been awarded by a college or university by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the US Department of Education/US Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the internet at You must pay the required evaluation fee.


    DUTIES:

    The work involves responsibility for performing various moderately difficult clerical duties requiring a general understanding of specific law, office rules, procedures and policies. The work is performed under general supervision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Public Works and the direct supervision of the Public Works Office Supervisor with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Unusual problems or situations are referred to supervisors before action is taken. Does related work as required.
