    Description

    Under the direction of the school administration, the Behavior Interventionist provides pre-, peri-, and post-crisis interventions for students with challenging emotional/behavioral and social concerns. The Behavior Interventionist also serves as a resource to effectively support the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support system (PBIS). The Behavior Interventionist may be a member of the school's Multi-Tier System of Support Team to provide behavioral data for the team to apply strategies, techniques, and interventions to aid in the student's emotional and academic achievement.

    JOB GOAL: To assist with increased student achievement by implementing strategies necessary to aid in the improvement of student behavior.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Counseling, Special Education, Social Work, or Psychology experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in a related field minimal requirement.
    • Two years of college or paraprofessional certification
    • Knowledge and experience working with students with challenging emotional/behavioral needs and the application of strategies, techniques, and interventions to improve behavior and emotional well-being.
    Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
    • Ability to form strong and positive relationships with students and staff to support students in the development of the following domains: Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Self-Management, Responsible Decision Making, and Relationship Skills
    • Ability to foster independence, self-esteem, and self-confidence in students
    • Knowledge of behavior management, intervention strategies, and de-escalation techniques
    • Ability to exhibit emotional control, patience, and persistence in extremely stressful situations
    • Ability to observe, chart, and specifically describe and write student behavior management plans
    • Working knowledge of academics and well-being skills commensurate with the student's age and developmental level
    • Ability to implement individualized interventions based on student's needs
    • Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, and recording methodologies
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for early identification of students experiencing behavior problems
    • Manages and coordinators positive behavior/emotional interventions and support for students
    • Assists with creating student behavior management plans and implementing the strategies outlined
    • Provides Pre-, Peri-, and Post-crisis interventions
    • Coordinates and implements positive interventions for identified students, including developing goals and activities to curb undesirable behavior. Behavioral Interventionist will assess the needs of each student and may include but not be limited to: daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and yearly interventions and progress monitoring
    • Teach well-being skills within the resource room and classroom settings
    • Assists administrators with parent /caregiver communication as requested and provides parent information and education relating to the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Program of the school
    • Works with building administration in the implementation of a robust program of positive and proactive behavior strategies and support for the school community
    • Assists in classrooms to meet individual and group needs as requested by the administration
    • Provides data collection, develops reports, records, and analyzes intervention data to include progress monitoring and intervention adjustments
    • Implements behavioral interventions with fidelity
    • Provides a proactive approach to addressing behavior through the utilization of Restorative Practices
    • Works with teachers, intervention teams, school personnel, families, students, and other agencies to support student well-being and success.
    • Works collaboratively as a team member and confers with staff and/or caregivers to address concerning behaviors that hinder satisfactory behavioral or academic achievement
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal
