Position Description

Responsible for writing grant/technical/proposals assigned by the Administration and Faculty. These proposals, requesting contributions, are submitted to individuals, corporations, foundations, and governmental entities. Responsibilities include assignments from, as well as, coordinating the efforts of faculty and staff to produce high-quality grant proposals.

About the Department and/or College

The College of Media & Communication ) at Texas Tech University serves approximately 2500 students across its undergraduate majors and graduate programs. The college's enrollment and credit hours have grown consistently for the last seven years; the number of full-time faculty has almost tripled; and the area for facilities has increased more than 40%. CoMC is the #1 rated research unit in the TTU System per the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking). Its private and state grants initiatives have skyrocketed in recent years, achieving its 2025 grants goals in fall 2020. It maintains high standards for teaching, even as its reputation as a media research center expands. CoMC metrics for student retention and graduation rates are near the top at Texas Tech in many categories. Major/Essential Functions

The proposal developer/writer will work closely with faculty researchers to achieve the following essential functions:

• Assist CoMC faculty with applying for grants to support the growth of the college's in-person and online/distance course offerings
• Aid in identifying and developing opportunities for CoMC faculty to pursue a broad range extramural funding sources.
• Serve as a liaison with research development personnel from university central administration as well as proposal developers from other units across campus and partner institutions to facilitate interdisciplinary funding proposals.
• Help develop proposals in partnership with individual faculty, research teams from within the College, or interdisciplinary clusters examining diverse subjects
• Assist faculty with editing of proposal content (e.g., research plan, project narrative, etc).
• Assist faculty in submission of proposals through TTU Office of Research Services

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or related field. Three years experience in proposal/technical writing. Education and experience can exchange on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Communication/media educational, professional background, or subject area depth of knowledge and appreciation
• Experience in grant writing and/or technical writing
• Appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration
• Basic knowledge of budgeting
• Ability to multi-task and advance multiple projects simultaneously

Although no previous experience with proposal development or submission is required, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness and interest in learning both the proposal development process and the identification of funding opportunities for a diverse array of sources including government, corporate, foundation, and/or other funding sources.
