    Description


    Zygo designs and builds a wide variety of cutting edge optical cutting-edge wide range of applications including medical imaging, laser surgery, gene sequencing, AR/VR, commercial space, semiconductor, and defense.

    As a lead optical design engineer, you would be a key member of the engineering team taking a broad range of designs from concept to production.

    You would also support projects more widely within Zygo for cutting edge optical instruments and optical fabrication. Assignments are given in the form of product requirements, objectives and schedule.


    Responsibilities and Duties:
    Optical design and tolerancing, specification development, and metrology system and measurement process definition.
    Technical communication of product design and metrology topics directly to the customer's technical leads
    Design implementation and transfer to product development.
    Support troubleshooting activities for product development and manufacturing groups.
    Supporting the opportunity development and capture process as an optical systems expert.
    Providing the optical and metrology systems' technical input for customer proposals.


    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
    Proven track record for successfully designing complex optical and metrology systems from initial concept to manufacturing.
    High level of proficiency with CodeV or Zemax (preferably both)
    Demonstrated capability with other analytical tools such as Mathematica and MathCad
    Demonstrated ability to engage customers and stakeholders in the synthesis of product specifications, design goals and product cost trades.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Ability to perform effectively in a technically diverse teaming environment.
    Ability to communicate to all levels in the organization.
    Ability to travel to meet program needs and develop new business opportunities.
