    Overview
    Utah State University's School of Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Adolescent Literacy Education (grades The anticipated start date is August 2024. Reviews of applications will continue until the position is filled.

    This is a nine-month, academic-year appointment with the opportunity for summer employment. The position is on the USU main campus in Logan, Utah, a Carnegie R1 Institution of Higher Education. This position is not eligible for remote work.

    An ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong record of, or potential to: produce peer-reviewed journal publications, obtain extramural research funding, recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, be an effective classroom teacher at the undergraduate and the graduate levels who is capable of using a variety of delivery modalities, and provide meaningful service to Utah State University, the residents of Utah, and the profession.

    Responsibilities
    Engage in academic scholarship, including grant writing, and conducting and publishing research in adolescent literacy education;
    Teach undergraduate courses in TEAL's Secondary Teacher Education Program using face-to-face, broadcast, and online delivery methods; teach graduate courses as assigned.
    Chair and serve on graduate student committees;
    Develop partnerships with schools to facilitate research and provide programs supporting adolescent literacy education.
    Demonstrate a commitment to teaching and working with students from diverse populations;
    Provide service to the department and institution and national, state, and local service to the profession.
    Qualifications
    ASSISTANT PROFESSOR RANK

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Earned EdD or PhD by August 2024, with expertise in teacher education at the secondary level in adolescent literacy education (grades 6-12).
    At least three years of demonstrated successful experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school and/or high school levels.
    An emerging record of refereed journal publications in adolescent literacy that aligns with the assistant professor level.
    Demonstrated potential for teaching secondary education adolescent literacy courses, particularly disciplinary literacy, at the university level.
    A commitment to inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications:

    Evidence of ability to establish a program of research that includes practicing professionals in field-based settings.
    Experience working on and/or obtaining extramural research funding through grant writing and/or public/private contracts.
    Experience with distance education delivery and learning management systems.

    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR RANK

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Earned EdD or PhD with expertise in teacher education at the secondary level in adolescent literacy education (grades 6-12).
    At least three years of demonstrated successful experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school and/or high school levels.
    An established record of publications in adolescent literacy that aligns with the associate professor level.
    Demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding to support scholarly activities.
    Demonstrated experience with teaching secondary education adolescent literacy courses, particularly disciplinary literacy, at the university level.
    Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
    Demonstrated ability to foster and sustain collegial and collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff.
    Preferred Qualifications:

    A research agenda with national recognition.
    Evidence of innovative teaching and/or demonstrated leadership in program development and improvement.
    Experience with distance education delivery and learning management systems.
    A record of advising and supervising literacy education graduate students in theses or dissertations.
