If you are an
Excel wiz , and love sifting and sorting large volumes of data, this is the job for you.
We use pivot tables and complex formulas such as embedded if statements daily due to reliance on a legacy software product (we are evaluating software vendors for a possible data migration).
If you can manage fixed asset maintenance, prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, cash management, and account reconciliations, you could be the Accountant we need.

The communities that Alaska Village Electric Cooperative serves receive power via small, isolated grids that utilize diesel generation and renewable resources.
We are unlike any other utility in the world.The
Accountant
reports to the CFO and provides support to ensure adequate internal controls and efficiency of procedures and processes within the Accounting department.
As our Accountant you will review transactions and batches posted by Accounting Clerk and Specialist; maintain fixed asset records; support month-end close and account analysis with detailed account analysis, journal entries, and G/L account reconciliations; review invoice packets and request for payment (600 payments per month); review trip expense reports and calculate per diem amounts; and assist with annual inventory and obsolete inventory processes.
You will be expected to demonstrate active knowledge of GAAP in daily execution of functions and tasks and cross-train to provide backup to both the Accounting Specialist and Controller.
Qualifications for the Accountant:
Requirements include a bachelor's degree required in Accounting or a closely-related discipline; at least one year of experience at the Accountant level or higher after achieving an accounting or closely related bachelor's degree; and a driver's license with an acceptable driving record for insurance at normal rates.
Work environment:
Our office in Anchorage is located in midtown at 4831 Eagle Street with off-street parking and a beautiful view of the mountains.
Schedule flexibility:
We offer flexibility in start/end time between 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. This is full time, in-person work. We offer flexibility for work-life balance including a 9/80 schedule (eligibility after 6 months). *REMOTE WORK IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR THIS POSITION DUE TO OUR LEGACY SOFTWARE AND RELATED WORKFLOWS.
